Innovation Projects
NJ TRANSIT Innovation team projects range from ‘proofs-of-concept’ designed to test and develop new technologies, to pilots that integrate new technologies into NJ TRANSIT operations, to full scale implementations that build meaningful change throughout the agency and its operations.
Innovation projects have a wide range of focus, but generally deal with: (1) Getting Stations, Depots, and Right of Ways connected so that the home bases of NJ TRANSIT operations are able to service and deliver 21st century capabilities, (2) Getting Rolling Stock Assets connected, so that our Trains, Buses, Lightrail, and Paratransit vehicles are wired for the future, (3) Getting Data In and Out of Assets, so that riders can benefit from data and analytics unlocked efficiencies, (4) Leveraging New Sensors, so that NJ TRANSIT is always there to provide the best customer service, and (5) Creating Digital Twins of Our Network to Optimize and Manage, so that our facilities are always ready to serve the public.
For 2023 and 2024, NJ TRANSIT Innovation also has the focus of cost avoidance, cost savings, and new revenue generation for the agency, so that NJ TRANSIT can maintain the best possible financial posture that enables it to deliver world class service to the most densely populated state in the United States.
