Five NJ TRANSIT rail lines serve Penn Station New York. Customers traveling from the west can transfer at Newark Penn Station to New York service. Customers traveling from the north can transfer at Secaucus Junction.

From the South

  • The Northeast Corridor offers frequent service from Trenton north to Penn Station New York. Connections from RiverLINE, Amtrak and SEPTA service can be made at Trenton Transit Center.
  • The North Jersey Coast Line provides direct service from Long Branch to Penn Station New York at all times. Direct service to/from stations between Bay Head and Long Branch during weekday peak periods only. Connecting rail shuttle service is also provided at stations between Bay Head and Long Branch; customers must change trains at Long Branch to continue their trip.

From the West

  • The Raritan Valley Line provides weekday service from High Bridge, Raritan and Plainfield to Newark Penn Station, with trains extended to/from New York during midday and evening hours. On weekends and holidays, service operates between Raritan and Newark Penn Station, with connecting service to/from New York.

From the North

  • The Main/Bergen County Lines provide service from Suffern through Bergen and Passaic counties.
  • Port Jervis Line trains offer service between Port Jervis, or Middletown, NY and Hoboken.
  • The Pascack Valley Line operates between Spring Valley, NY and Hoboken, offering daily service.
  • Customers continuing to New York or other stations on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast or Raritan Valley Lines must change trains at Secaucus Junction (Raritan Valley Line customers change trains again at Newark Penn Station).

From Midtown Manhattan

  • Frequent, fast service (a 15 to 20-minute trip) is offered on the Northeast Corridor and the North Jersey Coast Line between Penn Station New York and Newark Penn Station.

From the Northwest

  • The Morris & Essex Lines provide service between Dover/Summit/Gladstone and Newark Broad Street Station/Hoboken/New York. On weekdays only, service is also provided west of Dover, between Lake Hopatcong/Mount Olive/Hackettstown and Newark Broad Street/Hoboken, with customers required to transfer at Broad Street for service to/from New York.
  • The Montclair-Boonton Line provides weekday service between Hackettstown/Mount Olive/Lake Hopatcong/Dover/Montclair State University and Newark Broad Street/Hoboken/New York. On weekends and holidays, service is provided between Bay Street and Hoboken only; customers traveling to/from New York must change trains at Newark Broad Street.
  • Connecting service for New York and other locations is available at Secaucus Junction.
