NJ TRANSIT Expands Contactless Tap & Ride

Pictured: contactless payment validator for NJ TRANSIT Bus.

Getting ready to take a trip can be stressful, especially if you are in a rush. NJ TRANSIT understands, and has expanded Tap & Ride, to give you a speedier start to your travel journey. After launching contactless payments for a number of bus routes and Newark Light Rail customers, the feature has been expanded once more.

Now, customers can use the tap-to-pay feature on most bus routes for NJ TRANSIT as well as all light rail lines for the adult one-way fare. Just tap a contactless card to pay the fare and enjoy the ride. And, customers may also view their contactless payment transactions HERE.

For bus rides, customers will need to alert the operator to the number of zones they wish to travel for the correct fare. When traveling on light rail, customers may simply tap their payment card at the validator to pay the adult one-way fare and continue the trip. From that point the card is valid for the fare during the usual validation period. Fare enforcement officers will ask a customer to tap the same card used to purchase their ticket on fare enforcement scanners for proof of purchase.

For assistance with Tap & Ride transactions and information, customers may contact the NJ TRANSIT Payments Call Center at (862) 229-7139. The call center is available Monday through Friday 7:00am to 5:30pm, and on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays 8:30am to 5:00pm (Eastern Time).  More information on Tap & Ride is available HERE

We appreciate your patience as we continue to work to enhance your experience.
