Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth, and North Elizabeth Stations: Temporary Boarding Changes due to Amtrak Tie Replacement – Beginning Monday, July 25, 2022

Beginning Monday, July 25 at 9pm and continuing for approximately 8 weeks during the overnight hours between Monday and Friday, boarding/alighting at Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth & North Elizabeth stations will be impacted by track infrastructure improvements.

During this time, customers traveling eastbound (to Newark/New York) will only be able to board/alight on low-level platforms with the assistance of train crews and uniformed NJ TRANSIT staff. Alternative boarding/travel options for customers requiring accessible boarding are shown below.

  • Eastbound customers at Rahway and Linden will board/alight via stairs to/from the high-level platform at the track level when low-level boarding is in effect (during overnight hours on Monday through Friday between 9PM and 5AM).
  • Eastbound customers at Elizabeth and North Elizabeth will board/alight via stairs to/from the high-level platform at the track level when low-level boarding is in effect (during overnight hours on Monday through Friday between 11PM and 5AM).

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CUSTOMERS UNABLE TO USE LOW-LEVEL PLATFORM

Rahway and Linden:

  • Monday through Friday evening:
    • The last trains scheduled to use extended platforms for boarding/alighting at Rahway and Linden will be NJCL Train 3516 (8:26PM at Rahway and 8:31PM at Linden) and NEC Train 3876 (8:44PM at Rahway and 8:49PM at Linden).
    • The first trains scheduled to require low-level platforming will be NJCL Train 3278 (9:03PM at Rahway and 9:08PM at Linden) and NEC Train 3880 (9:29PM at Rahway and 9:34PM at Linden).
  • Tuesday through Friday mornings: the first trains scheduled to use the extended platforms will be NJCL Train 3204 (5:19AM at Rahway) and NEC Train 3700 (5:24AM at Rahway and 5:29AM at Linden).
  • Saturday morning: the first trains scheduled to use the extended platforms will be NJCL Train 7204 (5:41AM at Rahway and 5:46AM at Linden) and NEC Train 7804 (5:50AM at Rahway and 5:55AM at Linden).

Elizabeth and North Elizabeth:

  • Monday through Friday evening:
    • The last trains scheduled to use regular platforms for boarding/alighting at Elizabeth and North Elizabeth will NJCL Train 3284 (10:16PM at Elizabeth) and be NEC Train 3886 (11:04PM at Elizabeth and 11:07PM at North Elizabeth).
    • The first trains scheduled to require low-level platforming will be NJCL Train 3288 (11:30PM at Elizabeth) and NEC Train 3888 (12:19AM at Elizabeth and 12:22AM at North Elizabeth).
  • Tuesday through Friday mornings: the first train scheduled to use regular platforms will be NEC Train 3700 (5:35AM at Elizabeth and 5:38AM at North Elizabeth).
  • Saturday morning: the first trains scheduled to use regular platforms will be NJCL Train 7204 (5:53AM at Elizabeth and 5:56AM at North Elizabeth) and NEC Train 7804 (6:02AM at Elizabeth).

When low-level boarding is in effect, for the shortest trip time, customers unable to use low-level boarding at Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth and North Elizabeth are encouraged to use the nearest accessible stations, which are Metropark and Woodbridge to the west of Rahway, and Newark Penn to the east of North Elizabeth.

Customers who don’t have the option of using an alternate accessible station when low-level boarding is in effect, can call NJ TRANSIT’s Access Link bus service at (973) 671-4480 for alternate transportation to the nearest accessible station.

IMPORTANT: Customers using Access Link may experience wait times of up to one hour based on demand.

  • If traveling on a train to Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth or North Elizabeth stations from points west on the Northeast Corridor Line (Trenton through Metropark) when low-level boarding/alighting is in effect, inform the Access Link operator that an Access Link vehicle should meet you at Metropark Station to transport you to any NEC station between Rahway and North Elizabeth stations.
  • If traveling on a train to Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth or North Elizabeth stations from points west on the North Jersey Coast Line (Bay Head through Woodbridge) when low-level boarding/alighting is in effect, inform the Access Link operator that an Access Link vehicle should meet you at Woodbridge Station to transport you to any NEC station between Rahway and North Elizabeth stations.
  • If boarding at Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth or North Elizabeth stations when low-level boarding/alighting is in effect, inform the Access Link operator that an Access Link vehicle should meet you at the station where you will be boarding (Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth or North Elizabeth) to transport you to any NEC station between Rahway and Newark Penn stations.

Please allow for extra travel time, listen to announcements, and check destination sign before boarding. For your safety, observe posted signs, and do not travel on the bridge plates until trains have come to a complete stop. We appreciate your patience during this important enhancement work.
