WARRINGTON LAUNCHES DERAILMENT INVESTIGATION
Orders All Arrow III Cars Inspected Today
NEWARK, NJ -- As crews prepare to work around the clock to resume full service, NJ TRANSIT announced tonight that it will operate a close to normal schedule for tomorrow morning's rush hour. The modified schedule includes some express trains making local stops, MidTOWN DIRECT trains being diverted into and out of Hoboken Terminal, and seven morning cancellations. The morning schedule is a result of only one track out of two available for train service between New York and Newark to accommodate crews working to restore service on all tracks.
Similar to this evening's operation, the Corporation will cancel its smaller, shorter distance trains between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. To accommodate those customers, some North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor express trains will make local stops. In addition, extra cars will be put on a number of trains traveling on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line. Customers are urged to listen to news reports before they leave their homes tomorrow morning and to listen to announcements at their stations.
MidTOWN DIRECT trains will operate to and from Hoboken Terminal throughout the day, where customers can take PATH or New York Waterway to get into Manhattan (NJ TRANSIT rail passes will be honored on these services).
Specific train information is as follows:
Northeast Corridor Trains Cancelled
· Train 3819, the 7:03 a.m. out of Penn Station New York
· Train 3823, the 7:34 a.m. out of Penn Station New York

The slightly modified schedule is a result of a single-track operation between New York and Newark to accommodate crews working to restore service on all tracks
In an effort to run as close to a regular service out New York as possible, five of the Corporation’s smaller, shorter distance trains will be cancelled between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and some express North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor trains will make local stops to accommodate customers whose trains were eliminated. Customers are urged to listen to announcements in Penn Station New York for more information. Additional staff will be on hand to assist.
MidTOWN DIRECT trains will operate to and from Hoboken Terminal on their regular schedule. In addition, extra cars will be put on a number of trains traveling on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line.
Trains traveling eastbound to New York on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line will continue to operate on an hourly schedule for the remainder of the day.

NEWARK, NJ -- NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington today issued the following statement regarding the derailment of Northeast Corridor train 3920.
“We are grateful that no one was seriously injured in the incident this morning and regret the inconvenience that many of our customers experienced.
“It’s clear that the derailment of Northeast Corridor train 3920 occurred after the train lost a wheel under the sixth car, however it is premature to speculate about the precise cause. We have undertaken a full investigation into the incident and expect to conclude with a preliminary findings report in the next day or two. The focus of the investigation at this time includes possible mechanical failure, but we have not ruled out any possibilities, including human error.
“Safety is our number one priority and to that end, we are today inspecting each of the 230 Arrow MU cars in our fleet – the type of car that lost the wheel this morning. All of those cars will be inspected before the afternoon peak period.
“At this time, our forces are working hard to fully reopen the railroad. With Amtrak’s cooperation, our goal is to restore normal service as quickly as possible.”
NJ TRANSIT trains are currently operating hourly between New York and Trenton. We continue to cross honor all PATH, NJT bus, private carrier bus and New York waterway ferry tickets. MidTOWN direct trains continue to operate into Hoboken and will through this evening peak travel period.
