VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED FOR NJ TRANSIT’S NEWARK PENN STATION MODERNIZATION PROJECT

August 2, 2022

NEWARK, NJ – NJ TRANSIT is seeking input from the public on the future of Newark Penn Station. The first of three public meetings regarding the revitalization of the historic Newark Penn Station has been set for Tuesday, August 9, 2022, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. All members of the public, including Newark Penn Station customers, as well as Newark residents, business owners, visitors and other stakeholders are invited to participate.

NJ TRANSIT staff members will lead this virtual meeting to inform the public about the project and solicit feedback.

NJ TRANSIT’s Newark Penn Station Modernization Project will deliver improvements to the station and its immediate surroundings, enhancing the experience of customers passing through the station as well as for the residents and businesses in the community. Public involvement is essential in shaping the station’s future design and ensuring that it meets the needs of the customers and the community.

During this online public meeting, NJ TRANSIT will introduce the project and review the project’s goals and objectives. The public is invited and encouraged to participate via phone, tablet or computer to learn about the project, ask questions and share their thoughts with the project team.

As part of the master plan, construction plans will be created which address state-of-good-repair needs as well as long-term capital improvements to Newark Penn Station. These plans will outline present and future opportunities to better integrate the station within the framework of the growing needs of its surrounding communities.

The first phase of renovations will focus on updating and refurbishing historic elements, while longer-term enhancements would focus on improving the station’s openness and overall customer and visitor experience.
