**UPDATED** NJ TRANSIT TO CHANGE RAIL SCHEDULES SEPTEMBER 30

Changes on Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line Include Upcoming Opening of Newark International Airport Station

NEWARK, NJ, September 26, 2001 -- NJ TRANSIT will change some of its rail schedules on September 30. The Corporation regularly revises its schedules to address changing travel patterns.

Schedules on many Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains have been adjusted in anticipation of Newark International Airport Station's opening as well as changes in Amtrak schedules. Customers using these lines should carefully check new timetables dated September 30. The opening date for the Airport station will be announced at a later time by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

All new timetables include arrival and departure information for customers who anticipate using Newark International Airport Station. When the station opens this fall, 124 NJ TRANSIT trains will stop there each weekday. On weekends, all NJ TRANSIT Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains will stop at the station.

Schedules on the Atlantic City and Pascack Valley lines will not change September 30, although new timetables will be issued. There will be minor changes on the Bergen County, Boonton, Gladstone, Main, Montclair and Port Jervis lines. Customers on these lines should carefully check new timetables dated September 30.

The following is a complete list of major schedule changes:

MidTOWN DIRECT

  • Changes begun the week of September 24 will continue:
    • Train 6620 departs Dover at 7:32 a.m. and makes all stops between Dover and Summit except Mount Tabor. Afterwards, it stops only at South Orange and Newark Broad Street stations before continuing to New York, where it will arrive at 8:59 a.m.
    • Train 6320 -- which began operating September 24 -- departs Summit at 8:13 a.m. and stops at Short Hills, Millburn, Maplewood, Brick Church, Newark Broad Street and Penn Station New York, where it arrives at 9:05 a.m.
    • Train 6699 -- which began operating September 28 -- departs Penn Station New York at 6:08 p.m. and operates express to Summit, then makes all local stops to Dover except Mount Tabor.
  • Train 6670, which currently departs Dover at 7:32 p.m. and arrives in New York at 8:51 p.m., will now depart Dover at 7:39 p.m. and arrive in New York at 8:57 p.m.
  • Weekend train 6912, which currently departs Dover at 7:14 a.m. and arrives in New York at 8:47 a.m., will now arrive in New York five minutes earlier.
  • Minor changes will occur on several other trains. Customers should obtain new timetables and check them carefully.

Morris & Essex Lines

  • Train 346, which currently departs Summit at 8:10 p.m. and arrives in Hoboken at 8:52 p.m., will now operate 37 minutes earlier to provide an improved connection for Hoboken-bound customers using MidTOWN DIRECT train 6668.
  • Minor changes will occur on several other trains. Customers should obtain new timetables and check them carefully.

Northeast Corridor

  • Schedules on many trains will be adjusted slightly in anticipation of the Newark International Airport Station opening. Customers should check their new timetables carefully to determine if their train’s schedule has changed.
  • A new train will be added during the evening peak period to address overcrowding. Train 5805 will depart Newark at 6:20 p.m., operate express to Metropark, then make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue. This train will operate ahead of train 3869, which departs Newark at 6:27 p.m. Customers can use train 3271 -- which departs New York at 5:55 p.m. -- to connect with train 5805.
  • The following trains will see major adjustments:
    • Train 3830, which departs Trenton at 8:15 a.m. and arrives in New York at 9:30 a.m., will no longer stop at Metropark. Customers should use train 3712, which stops at Metropark at 8:58 a.m. -- six minutes later than the current stop by train 3830 -- arrives in New York at 9:35 a.m. and accepts off-peak tickets.
    • Train 3852, which currently departs Trenton at 2:13 p.m. and arrives in New York at 3:32 p.m., will now depart Trenton at 2:08 p.m. and arrive in New York at 3:19 p.m.
    • Train 3868, which currently departs Trenton at 5:37 p.m. and arrives in New York at 6:56 p.m., will now depart Trenton at 5:38 p.m. and arrive in New York at 7:01 p.m.
    • Train 3870, which currently departs Trenton at 6:10 p.m. and arrives in New York at 7:29 p.m., will now depart Trenton at 6:12 p.m. and arrive in New York at 7:34 p.m.
    • Weekend train 7870, which currently departs Trenton at 9:43 p.m. and arrives in New York at 11:08 p.m., will now depart Trenton at 9:40 p.m. and arrive in New York at 11:03 p.m.
    • Weekend train 7877, which currently departs New York at 9:33 p.m. and arrives in Trenton at 10:55 p.m., will now depart New York at 9:27 p.m. and arrive in Trenton at 10:51 p.m.

North Jersey Coast Line

  • Schedules on many trains will be adjusted slightly in anticipation of the Newark International Airport Station opening. Customers should check their new timetables carefully to determine if their train’s schedule has changed.

Raritan Valley Line

  • Weekend trains 2522 -- which currently departs Raritan at 2:54 p.m. and arrives in Hoboken at 4:10 p.m. -- and 2534 -- which currently departs Raritan at 8:54 p.m. and arrives in Hoboken at 10:12 p.m. -- will each operate five minutes earlier.
  • Minor changes will occur on several other trains. Customers should obtain new timetables and check them carefully.
