SERVICE, COMMUNICATIONS CONTINGENCIES SET FOR WARWICK-NY LINES IN WINTER MONTHS

Newark, NJ ¿NJ TRANSIT today unveiled its winter service plan for the No. 196/197 Warwick, N.Y.¿New York City bus lines that includes more trips, greater travel options and better communications during inclement weather conditions.
When Mt. Peter (Route 17A) is closed or conditions are deemed unsafe during the winter months, the following contingency plan will take effect:
More service. In the morning, all No. 196/197 buses will originate and/or terminate at the Greenwood Lake Park & Ride (N.Y.), which is located on Route 210 (Jersey Avenue) at Windemere Avenue. In the evening, three new express trips will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) to downtown Warwick and the Warwick Park & Ride via the New York Thruway (I-87), departing at 3:50 p.m., 4:50 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. Travel time will depend on weather conditions. All other No. 196 and No. 197 buses will terminate at the Greenwood Lake Park & Ride in Greenwood Lake, N.Y. For park & ride information, customers can call Greenwood Lake Village Hall at (845) 477-9215.
More options. If Rt. 210 in Greenwood Lake (N.Y./N.J. area) is closed or conditions are deemed unsafe, all No. 196 and 197 buses ¿ except the three new express trips to Warwick ¿ will originate and/or terminate at the West Milford Park & Ride, located at the corner of Greenwood Lake Turnpike and Lincoln Avenue.
Improved communications. During times of inclement weather, customers may call NJ TRANSIT¿s Winter Weather Hotline at (201) 612-1162 to determine if a weather contingency plan is in effect. The hotline will be active from November 15, 2004 through March 31, 2005. In addition, customers can visit www.njtransit.com or listen for broadcast traffic reports.
Better choices. When NJ TRANSIT activates the contingency plan, bus route Nos.196/197 zone 12 and zone 13 passes and 10-trip tickets will be accepted by Metro-North on the Port Jervis Line from Harriman, Tuxedo or Sloatsburg stations. Short Line/Coach USA also will accept those tickets at the following locations:
- Central Valley Park & Ride on Rt. 17 South at Larkin Drive in Harriman
- Monroe Park & Ride on Orange and Rockland roads in Monroe
- Sterling Forest Park & Ride on Rt. 17 North at the Red Apple Rest in Tuxedo
NJ TRANSIT¿s No. 194 line also will accept zone 12 and zone 13 tickets at:
- Stockholm Park & Ride at Rt. 23 North at Rt. 515
- Newfoundland Park & Ride on the old Rt. 23 North and Kanouse Road
- Butler Park & Ride at the Meadetown Shopping Center behind the Butler Bowl bowling alley
NJ TRANSIT continues to work closely with officials from Greenwood Lake, Warwick and the New York Department of Transportation on plans to operate bus route No. 196/197 to and from New York State during inclement weather.
