NJ TRANSIT'S JULY 4TH HOLIDAY WEEKEND SCHEDULE
NEWARK – NJ TRANSIT is preparing for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend with special accommodations for commuters. Service schedules between bus, light rail, and rail lines will be adjusted for holiday travelers.
Below is detailed information about July 4th weekend service:
FRIDAY, JULY 2, 2004
Northeast Corridor
· Early getaway service will be provided on Train 8847, which will depart New York Penn Station at 1:54 p.m., stopping at Newark and Newark Liberty International Airport at 2:14 p.m., operating express to Metropark and then making all stops to Trenton, arriving at 3:09 p.m.
Raritan Valley Line
Early getaway service will be provided on two trains:
- Train 8525 will replace Train 5425. Train 8525 will depart Newark Penn Station at 1:06 p.m. and make all stops to High Bridge except Garwood and Finderne, arriving in High Bridge at 2:30 p.m. Connecting service for this train departs New York at 12:41 p.m. and stops in Newark Penn Station at 1:00 p.m.
- Train 8529 will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:34 p.m. and make all stops to Raritan except Finderne, arriving in Raritan at 4:33 p.m. Connecting service for this train departs New York at 3:07 p.m. and stops in Newark Penn Station at 3:26 p.m.
- Train 5711, which departs Newark Penn Station at 6:23 p.m., and Train 5903, which departs at 6:29 p.m., will be combined and will make all local stops to High Bridge except Finderne. This combined train, Train 8545, will depart Newark Penn Station at 6:29 p.m. and arrive in High Bridge at 7:57 p.m. Connecting service for this train departsNew York at 5:58 p.m.
North Jersey Coast Line

Early getaway service will be provided on Train 8301, which will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:47 p.m., travel express to Woodbridge, and then make all stops to Bay Head, where it will arrive at 5:40 p.m
Bus
- Additional bus service will be provided on a number of bus routes leaving New York Port Authority Bus Terminal between noon and 5 p.m. (Please check times tables and schedules.)
River LINE
- In addition to the regular weekday schedule, trains will operate between Trenton and Camden, making all stops, every 30 minutes starting at 9:30 p.m.
- The last train from Trenton to the Waterfront Entertainment Center, that will make all station stops, will depart Trenton at 12 a.m.
- The last train from the Waterfront Entertainment Center to Trenton that will make all station stops, will depart from the Waterfront Entertainment Center at 12 a.m
- Trains will operate from the Waterfront Entertainment Center to the 36th Street Park/Ride Station in Pennsauken at 12:15 a.m., 12:45 a.m. and 1:15 a.m.
SUNDAY, JULY 4, 2004
Rail
- All lines will operate on a major holiday/weekend schedule.
Bus
- Additional service to New York will be provided from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with departures returning to New Jersey from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.
River LINE
The River LINE will operate on a regular Saturday schedule with trains operating between Trenton and Camden, making all station stops, until 12 a.m.
Hudson Bergen Light Rail
- Extra light rail service will be provided for the fireworks at Liberty State Park. Trains will run every six to eight minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
MONDAY, JULY 5, 2004
Atlantic City Line
An additional train will be provided on the Atlantic City Line:
- Train 4500 will depart Atlantic City at 1:29 a.m. and make all stops to Cherry Hill, arriving at 2:31 a.m. Customers may transfer to a PATCO train at Lindenwold for service to Philadelphia. (Please note that Train 4500 is not listed in the timetable.)
Northeast Corridor Line
- Major holiday/weekend schedules will be in effect. The following trains will provide extra service in addition to the regular holiday/weekend schedule:
Inbound to New York:
- Train 8810 will depart Trenton at 6:53 a.m., make all stops to Metropark, travel express to Newark Penn Station (where it will arrive at 7:45 a.m.), stop at Secaucus Junction at 7:53 a.m., and arrive in New York at 8:07 a.m.
- Train 8214 will depart Rahway at 7:30 a.m., make stops at Linden and Elizabeth, Newark Penn Station at 7:48 a.m., Secaucus Junction at 7:56 a.m., and arrive in New York at 8:09 a.m.
Outbound to Trenton:
- Train 8841 will depart New York at 12:44 p.m., stop at Secaucus Junction at 12:53 p.m., stop at Newark Penn Station at 1:01 p.m., travel express to Metropark, and make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue, arriving in Trenton at 2:02 p.m.
- Train 8255 will depart New York at 4:48 p.m., stop at Secaucus Junction at 4:57p.m., stop at Newark Penn Station at 5:06 p.m., and then stop at Elizabeth, Linden, and Rahway, arriving in Rahway at 5:23 p.m.
Raritan Valley Line
- Major holiday/weekend schedules will be in effect. The following trains will provide extra service in addition to regular holiday/weekend schedules:
Inbound to Newark/Hoboken:
· Train 8512 will depart Raritan at 6:43 a.m., make all stops to Newark Penn Station except Garwood and Finderne, stop at Newark Penn Station at 7:39 a.m., and arrive in Hoboken at 8:02 a.m. Connecting service to New York departs Newark Penn Station at 7:45 a.m. and arrives in New York at 8:07 a.m.
Outbound to Raritan:
· Train 8551 will depart Hoboken at 4:53 p.m., stop at Newark Penn Station at 5:13 p.m., and then make all stops to Raritan, where it will arrive at 6:07 p.m. Connecting service from New York departs New York at 4:48 p.m. and stops in Newark Penn Station at 5:06 p.m.
Montclair-Boonton Line
· Limited service will operate. (Customers should check times tables and schedules for holiday information.)
Pascack Valley Line
· Limited service will operate. (Customers should check times tables and schedules for holiday information.)
Bus
· Saturday and Sunday service will be provided. (Customers should check times tables and notices on buses for holiday service information.)
River LINE
· Service will operate on a Sunday schedule. (Customers should check their schedules for holiday information.)
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail
· Service will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

The statewide transit agency's bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. July 2nd until 6 a.m. July 5th. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
