Plan ahead for a smoother trip

NEWARK, NJ — Going to the popular U2 concert tomorrow at the Meadowlands Sports Complex?  Let NJ TRANSIT get you there safely and without the hassles of driving.

The Meadowlands Rail Line connects to the Meadowlands Sports Complex from 11 of 12 NJ TRANSIT rail lines, with connections at Hoboken Terminal and Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus Junction.

To accommodate expected crowds, NJ TRANSIT has made a number of adjustments to move more people as quickly and safely as possible, including substituting some single-level rail trains with multilevel trains, which increases seating capacity by about 20 percent; using portable Ticket Vending Machines (TVM’s) to help with the demand in New York and Secaucus; pre-printing Meadowlands Sports Complex tickets to expedite purchases; and increasing the number of customer service representatives and employee volunteer ambassadors to help assist concert-goers.

The rail line can carry about 10,000 customers per hour to and from the sports complex. Customers should expect crowds after the concert and may want to give themselves additional travel time if they are making connections to other rail lines.

“We want customers traveling to the U2 concert to not only enjoy the music, but to enjoy their trip to and from the Meadowlands Sports Complex on NJ TRANSIT,” said Jim Weinstein, Executive Director of NJ TRANSIT. “We will have extra NJ TRANSIT staff on hand to assist customers, and have put a number of measures in place to get customers home as quickly and safely as possible after the concert.”

NJ TRANSIT is offering the following travel tips:

  • Purchase round-trip tickets in advance from any NJ TRANSIT rail ticket vending machine or ticket office.  Select “Meadowlands Sports Complex” as your destination.
  • Travel Early. Customers are encouraged to allow extra travel time. Rail Service to the Meadowlands Sports Complex will begin at 4:00 p.m.
  • After the concert, customers should expect crowds to board trains.
