NJ TRANSIT STUDENT DISCOUNT PROGRAM RETURNS FOR SPRING 2025 SEMESTER

Starting with February Student Pass Purchases, the Popular “Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free” Promotion Returns For Full-Time and Eligible Part-Time College Students

NEWARK, NJ – Students heading back to class for the Spring 2025 semester via NJ TRANSIT’s bus, rail or light rail systems can save even more money with the return of the “Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free” Student Pass promotion. This special promotional offer is in addition to the regular Student Pass discount, which provides a 25-percent savings off an already discounted monthly pass when purchased on the NJ TRANSIT mobile app. In addition to full-time students traveling to and from the campuses of participating regional colleges and universities, part-time degree-seeking students taking at least two courses are also eligible for the Student Pass fare and promotion.

To qualify for the “Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free” promotion, a student at a partner college or university must buy a student monthly pass via the NJ TRANSIT mobile app for three consecutive months: February, March and April of 2025. When the student completes all three qualifying purchases, they will receive a Student Pass equal to the lowest-price purchase made in the previous three months and valid for transportation in May 2025. February Student Passes go on sale the evening of Sunday, January 19th and are available for purchase through February 10th. 

For a student to be eligible, a school must offer Student Pass registration via their student portal and verify a student’s eligibility each semester. The student must register and purchase their Student Pass using their school-provided email on the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App. Once verified, Student Pass will appear each month as a ticket option during NJ TRANSIT’s customary monthly pass purchase period, beginning at 5 p.m. the 19th of the preceding month through the 10th of the travel month.

After the third qualifying purchase, a free monthly pass good for the month of May 2025 will be added to a student’s account, good for travel in May. This free pass is non-refundable, non-transferrable and will not include travel to/from SEPTA, Metro-North stations or Newark Liberty International Airport.

Through this promotion, students can save more than 60 percent off transportation to campus during the spring 2025 semester (February-May) when compared to purchasing one-way transportation.

NJ TRANSIT also offers other flexible options for college students traveling to campus:

  • Application for Student Tickets – Full and part-time college students attending 
    NJ TRANSIT-approved post-secondary schools, colleges and universities can complete an application to purchase a rail monthly pass at a 25-percent discount from rail ticket offices. Applications must be verified by the respective school/college. This offer is available only for a rail pass.
