NJ TRANSIT SERVICE UPDATE FOLLOWING WINTER STORM

NEWARK, NJ – NJ TRANSIT is operating limited rail service on Thursday, March 8th due to the significant impacts across the system following yesterday's storm. Customers should expect significant crowding conditions and delays. Cross-honoring will remain in effect all day with NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail, bus and private carrier buses, PATH at Newark, Hoboken & 33rd St. in NY and NY Waterway from Hoboken Terminal.

 

NJ TRANSIT crews worked through the night with hundreds of trees down across the state to restore as much service as possible for this morning's commute, and they will continue to work around-the-clock until all service can ultimately resume.

 

Bus & Light Rail will operate a regular weekday schedule, however customers can expect delays and possible cancellations.

 

Rail status:

  • NEC: Operating a regular weekday schedule. Customers should expect delays & possible cancellations.

 

  • NJCL: Operating a regular weekday schedule. Customers should expect delays & possible cancellations.

 

  • M&E/Montclair-Boonton: Suspended until further notice due to extensive overhead wire, power and signal issues along the entire lines.

 

  • RVL:  Operating a regular weekday schedule.  Rail crews worked through the night to remove more than 70 trees along the line in order to resume regular weekday service this morning. RVL service has resumed to and from High Bridge.

 

  • Bergen County/Port Jervis:  Remains suspended.


  • Main Line: very limited service between Suffern and Hoboken.

 

  • PVL:  limited evening rush hour service today. The last eastbound train will be #1626, the  12:13pm from Spring Valley  and the last westbound train will be #1641, the 7:29 pm from Hoboken. .

 

  • ACRL:  Service has resumed between Philadelphia 30th St. (with train #4631) and Atlantic City (with train #4624) with 20 minute delays.

Customers are strongly advised to build in extra travel time and check the status of the system prior to making their trip by visiting njtransit.com or utilizing the My Transit alert system (www.njtransit.com/mytransit), which delivers travel advisories to your smartphone.

 

Access Link has resumed regular service statewide.

 

 

Systemwide Cross-Honoring in Effect:  To give customers as many additional travel options as possible, NJ TRANSIT will offer full systemwide cross-honoring, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode including rail, light rail, bus, PATH and NY Waterway.   For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass or ticket on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station.  Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the Atlantic City Rail Line instead at no additional charge.

Travel Advice:

  • Listen closely to public address announcements at stations for late-breaking service information.

  • Build additional travel time into your trip to a station, terminal or bus stop.
  • Stairs, flooring and platforms can be slippery, so please use caution when walking along wet surfaces or any outdoor surface exposed to the weather. Use extra care when boarding or exiting buses and trains.

  • Report slippery or unsafe conditions to bus operators, train crews or
    NJ TRANSIT staff.  

  • If you park, ensure your car is stocked with a snow brush and ice scraper so you can clear your car upon returning to the lot.
