NJ TRANSIT REVISES SERVICE TO NEWARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Related Bus, Rail Service Revisions Planned

NEWARK, NJ, December 19, 2001 -- With rail ridership to the airport reaching a daily average of more than 1,500 passengers, AIRLINK/No. 302 and No. 303 services to the airport will be temporarily suspended on January 5, 2002 until further notice.

Direct rail service to Newark International Airport began October 21 on Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains from multiple destinations including Newark Penn Station and Penn Station New York. Rail service connects to AirTrain (formerly the monorail), and provides links to Terminal A, B and C, as well as central parking lots and rental car facilities. Service to the airport on NJ TRANSIT trains is available from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. See timetables or an NJ TRANSIT Newark International Airport Station How to Ride Guide for details and connection information. AirTrain fare includes the NJ TRANSIT fare, as well as a $5 access fee. Customers travelling between Newark Broad Street Station and Newark Penn Station should board connecting bus service. In addition to the new rail service to the airport, NJ TRANSIT also offers the following alternative service to reach Newark International Airport:

Direct airport service from Newark Penn Station:

  • Direct rail service on the Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line trains to the airport.
  • Bus No. 62 provides service to all terminals at the airport, 24 hours a day offering local service from Newark including Newark Penn Station. (See a timetable for local communities served to Perth Amboy).

Newark Broad Street Station - Newark Penn Station Bus Connections:

  • The LOOP/No. 306--Downtown Newark service includes Newark Broad Street Station, Seton Hall Law School, PSE&G, Verizon, Washington Park, IDT, NJPAC and Newark Penn Station. Morning peak period service had been added so that weekday service will be available beginning January 5, 2002 every 10 to 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Service is available weekends and holidays between 12:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. The LOOP leaves from Newark Penn Station on Raymond Plaza West in front of the station. The cost of the LOOP service is the same as regular NJ TRANSIT bus fares. Note: The LOOP buses were formerly purple and have now been redesigned and are white. Connection can then be made at Newark Penn Station on bus No. 62 or direct rail service to the airport.

The following buses provide connection between Newark Broad Street Station and Newark Penn Station. Buses board at Newark Penn Station in the Raymond Blvd. bus lanes. Check posters in bus lanes for details. Passengers at Newark Broad Street board buses on the corner of University Ave. and Lackawanna Ave:

  • Bus service on Nos. 72, 76, 78 and 108 -- Bus service is available between Newark Broad Street Station and Newark Penn Station on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
  • Bus service on Nos. 11, 28 and 29--Bus service is available on weekday evenings, Saturday evenings, and all day Sunday.

Direct airport service from Newark and Outlying Towns:

  • Bus No. 62: No. 62 provides direct service to all airport terminals. Former AIRLINK customers can board any downtown-bound bus at the Broad Street bus stop across the plaza from Newark Broad Street Station, purchase a transfer for the No. 62 (check fare information for monthly pass or feeder fare details), transfer at Market Street or Branford Place and board the No. 62 at Broad Street and Branford Place to travel to the airport. If you are already on board a Broad Street bus, remain on the bus and transfer at Branford Place for the No. 62. Luggage space is not available on the No.62.
