NJ TRANSIT TO REVISE BUS SCHEDULES

NEWARK, NJ, December 27, 2001 -- NJ TRANSIT will revise schedules on a number of bus lines on Saturday, January 5, 2002 in response to changing travel patterns, as well as customer requests and recommendations. The Corporation regularly reviews its bus routes and makes changes to improve service.

Customers are encouraged to pick up new timetables at major terminals and on their buses and check them carefully to determine if their trip has changed.

Atlantic County

  • On the No. 501 Atlantic City-Brigantine route, three weekday trips -- two in morning peak and one in afternoon peak -- and two Saturday morning trips have been eliminated due to low ridership.
  • Additional trips will be added weekday mornings and Sunday evening on the No. 502 Atlantic City-Hamilton Mall-Atlantic/Cape Community College route to alleviate overcrowding.
  • Two afternoon round trips on the No. 505 Atlantic City-Margate-Longport route that currently operate between Venice Park and Longport will instead operate between Venice Park and Margate only because of low ridership.
  • Minor changes will occur on the No. 508 Atlantic City-Richard Stockton College-Hamilton Mall route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • On the No. 553 Upper Deerfield-Atlantic City route, several changes will be made to alleviate overcrowding. Four weekday trips and two Saturday evening trips will be added. In addition, the No. 553 will now operate on Route 47 instead of High Street through Millville.
  • Two weekday morning trips on the No. 554 Lindenwold-Atlantic City route will be adjusted to operate through Pleasantville, rather than along Absecon Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. All weekend service will now operate through Pleasantville.

Bergen County

  • Minor changes will occur on the No. 144 Fair Lawn-Hackensack-New York, No. 154 Fort Lee-Palisades Park-New York and No. 156 Englewood Cliffs-New York routes. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • On the No. 186 Dumont-New York (GWB) route, a morning reverse-peak trip will be added between New York and Dumont.
  • On the No. 712 Hackensack-Willowbrook Mall route, two Saturday night trips will be extended to Saddle Brook and a Sunday night trip between Hackensack and Willowbrook Mall will be added.

Burlington County

  • Minor adjustments will be made to the No. 406 Medford Lakes-Philadelphia route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.

Camden County

  • Minor adjustments will be made on the No. 400 Sicklerville-Philadelphia and No. 403 Turnersville-Lindenwold-Philadelphia route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • On the No. 554 Lindenwold-Atlantic City route, adjustments will be made to morning peak period trips operating to Atlantic City. All weekend trips currently operating via Absecon Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue will be rerouted via Pleasantville.

Cape May County

  • Minor changes will be made on the No. 313/315 Philadelphia-Wildwood-Cape May route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.

Cumberland County

  • Minor changes will be made on the No. 408 Millville-Philadelphia route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.

Essex County

  • A new morning trip will be added on the No. 13 Broad Street-Clinton Avenue route to alleviate overcrowding, and an afternoon trip will be extended to Nutley.
  • The No. 29 Bloomfield Avenue route will add two Sunday morning Newark-bound trips to alleviate overcrowding.
  • The No. 62 Newark-Woodbridge-Perth Amboy route will add a trip after midnight to accommodate Federal Express employees working at Newark Airport.
  • A separate timetable will be issued for the No. 67 Toms River-Lakewood-Newark route. Toms River express routes will be identified with 67X destination signs. 67B destination signs will identify trips to Brick.
  • Minor changes will be made on the No. 73 Newark-Orange-Elizabeth route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • The No. 302 AIRLINK and No. 303 Broad Street Station-Penn Station Shuttle services will be temporarily suspended as of January 5, 2002.
  • The No. 306 route, known as The Loop, will add weekday morning peak period service between Broad Street and Penn stations in Newark to replace the suspended No. 302 AIRLINK service. In addition, standard NJ TRANSIT fares will be charged as of January 5.

Gloucester County

  • Minor changes will occur on the No. 403 Turnersville-Lindenwold-Philadelphia route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.

Hudson County

  • A separate timetable will be issued for the No. 64 Lakewood-Jersey City-Weehawken route, and minor trip adjustments will be made. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • An evening peak period trip will be added on the No. 82 Hudson route, departing Exchange Place at 6:10 p.m.
  • Minor changes will occur on the No. 86 Nungessers-Exchange Place, No. 120 Bayonne-Wall Street Express and No. 129 Secaucus-New York routes. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • The No. 305 Liberty State Park Shuttle will suspend all winter weekday service due to low ridership. Suspension will begin January 7 and continue through March 31, when service will resume.
  • On the No. 320 North Bergen Park/Ride-New York route, two morning peak period hour trips will be added. During the evening peak period, trips to New York may take up to 30 additional minutes because of increased traffic congestion.

Mercer County

  • Minor changes will occur on the No. 409 Trenton-Willingboro-Philadelphia route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • The No. 600 Trenton-Plainsboro route will extend weekend service to the Princeton Junction rail station and will operate every 90 minutes, instead of every 75 minutes as it presently does.
  • On the No. 603 Mercer Mall-Quaker Bridge Mall-Hamilton route, an additional trip will be added from Quaker Bridge Mall on weekends to relieve overcrowding. Also, additional time will be added to some afternoon peak period trips to reflect heavy traffic conditions. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • Two additional late afternoon trips will be added on the No. 606 Princeton-Mercerville route to alleviate overcrowding. Additional time will also be added to some afternoon peak period trips to reflect heavy traffic conditions.
  • Two weekday evening trips on the No. 608 West Trenton-Hamilton route will be extended to serve Hamilton Rail Station and Trane Industries.
  • On the No. 609 Ewing-Quaker Bridge Mall-Mercer County College route the continuing trip privilege between the No. 603, No. 605 and No. 609 will be eliminated for customers traveling between Quaker Bridge Mall and Mercer Mall.

Middlesex County

  • The No. 62 Newark-Woodbridge-Perth Amboy route will add a trip after midnight to accommodate Federal Express employees working at Newark Airport.
  • The Middletown detour route for the No. 817 Perth Amboy-Campbell's Junction route will become permanent because of weight restrictions on the Bray Avenue Bridge.

Monmouth County

  • There will be minor adjustments on the No. 317 Philadelphia-Asbury Park route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
  • Several evening trips on the No. 832 Red Bank-Monmouth Mall-Asbury Park route will use the line's regular routing to Cookman and Ocean avenues in Asbury Park. This route will no longer operate to Kingsley Street and Deal Lake Drive. The change is being made at the request of local officials and residents.
  • On the No. 833 Red Bank-Freehold route, several midday trips will be adjusted to operate via Luftman Towers in Middletown.
  • On the No. 834 Red Bank-Highlands route, certain trips will be adjusted to operate via Route 35 and New Monmouth Road in Middletown. These trips will serve Daniel Towers and the Middletown Library.

Ocean County

  • A separate timetable will be issued for the No. 64 Lakewood-Jersey City-Weehawken route, and minor trip adjustments will be made. Customers should check timetables carefully.
  • A separate timetable will be issued for the No. 67 Toms River-Lakewood-Newark route. Toms River express routes will be identified with 67X destination signs and 67B destination signs will identify trips to Brick.

Passaic County

  • Three morning peak-period trips and one evening peak-period trip will be added on the No. 161 Paterson-Passaic-New York route.
  • Two morning peak-period express trips on the No. 192 Clifton-New York route will be eliminated.
  • On the No. 193 Pompton Lakes-Packanack Lake-Willowbrook-New York route, three morning peak period trips to New York will be added, as will four afternoon and evening trips out of New York.
  • There will be minor adjustments on the No. 194 Newfoundland-New York route. Customers should check their timetables carefully for specific changes.

Union County

  • Early morning service will be added on the No. 59 Plainfield-Newark route between Hillside and Garwood.
  • Minor changes will be made to the No. 94 Stuyvesant Avenue Crosstown route. Customers should check their timetables carefully.
