Four current ⿿MCM⿝ routes will be expanded to six new bus routes

NJT-10-062

NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT today announced significant changes to Morris County local bus service that take effect Monday, October 4, 2010, as part of the agency’s effort to make the most efficient use of its resources, while serving customers in the area.

“We have made these changes to better match service levels and destinations with the needs of our Morris County customers,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director James Weinstein.  “I would like to thank Morris County for continuing to support local bus transportation options.”

“The economic vitality and quality of life for our region is largely dependent on efficient and reliable transportation systems,” said Morris County Freeholder Director Gene Feyl.  “NJ TRANSIT, working closely with the Morris County Transportation Department, has renewed their commitment to bus transportation in Morris County and made it more responsive and expansive to meet the needs of our residents.”

Effective October 4, NJ TRANSIT has restructured four local bus routes that operate in Morris County—Morris County Metro “MCM” routes 1, 2, 3 and 10—and transformed them into six new 800-series bus routes.  The restructured routes will expand bus service into new areas and create new transfer opportunities between NJ TRANSIT buses and trains at Morristown and Dover stations, while reducing service in areas where ridership has diminished.

NJ TRANSIT has created a special section of its website at njtransit.com/MCM to outline the changes for customers, including an interactive map that displays “before” and “after” views of the bus routes.

The new and improved service areas include the US 46 corridor between Morristown, Parsippany and Wayne/Willowbrook; commercial and office developments along the Jefferson Road corridor in Hanover and Parsippany; new direct service between Roxbury, Randolph, Dover, Wharton and Rockaway; and expanded services to Morris County’s Hanover Avenue Complex and Greystone Hospital in Morris Plains and Parsippany.

The current MCM routes serve approximately 1,400 customers on a typical weekday.

NJ TRANSIT has issued the following advisory to customers:
