NJ TRANSIT POLICE TO CONDUCT EMERGENCY RESPONSE DRILL IN BERGEN TUNNELS

NEWARK, NJ — The NJ TRANSIT Police Department, together with state and local partners, will conduct a training exercise on Saturday, September 24 inside the Bergen Tunnels on the Jersey City/Hoboken border to test a response from multiple agencies to a simulated train incident.

Also participating in the exercise will be Jersey City Fire, Police and the Office of Emergency Management; Hudson County Office of Emergency Management; NJ EMS Taskforce; Jersey City Medical Center; and NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations.

The drill will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and take about four hours to complete.  During the drill, customers on trains operating to and from Hoboken Terminal may notice police and emergency personnel in the tunnels, and local residents may see activity in the staging areas in the vicinity of the Bergen Tunnels.

Rail service will continue to operate normally during the exercise.
