NJ TRANSIT OFFERS ‘EARLY GETAWAY’ SERVICE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND
NJ TRANSIT celebrates summer with special service beginning June 30th for the July 4th holiday and great deals all season long

NEWARK, NJ – NJ TRANSIT is recognizing the birth of our nation with “early getaway” rail and bus service beginning on Friday, June 30th to help customers start the celebration early.
NJ TRANSIT can help you enjoy the fireworks and other holiday weekend events without having to worry about the cost of driving and parking. July 4th weekend is a great time for customers to take advantage of NJ TRANSIT’s travel options to fun summer destinations including the Jersey Shore, Monmouth Park, Six Flags Great Adventure or Hurricane Harbor.
Friday, June 30:
NJ TRANSIT rail, bus and light rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule with the following enhancements:
From approximately 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., extra outbound trains will operate. Visit njtransit.com or see rail timetables for details.
Extra buses will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on more than two dozen bus routes starting around noon. Visit njtransit.com for details or click HERE.
Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2:
Rail:
Rail service will operate on a regular weekend schedule.
Bus:
Bus service will operate on regular weekend schedules.
Light Rail:
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule.
Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday and Sunday schedule respectively.
River LINE will operate on a Saturday and Sunday schedule respectively.
Monday, July 3:
Rail:
Rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
Bus:
Bus service will operate on regular weekday schedules.
Light Rail:
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, Newark Light Rail, and the River LINE will all operate on a regular weekday schedule.
Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4:
Rail:
Trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines. In addition, Port Jervis Line Train 88 (4:05 p.m. from Port Jervis, 5:38 p.m. from Suffern, express to Secaucus and Hoboken) will operate.
Bus:
Northern and Central New Jersey bus routes will operate on a Saturday schedule. Southern New Jersey bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. Customers are advised to check their timetables or visit njtransit.com for schedule information. NOTE: buses may be subject to detours and service delays for 4th of July events and parades through various towns. See njtransit.com for details.
Light Rail:
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule.
On July 4, for a portion of the day, HBLR will adjust the routes which normally travel through and serve Exchange Place by terminating one stop prior to the Exchange Place station. Service from Tonnelle Ave. and Hoboken will terminate at Harborside. Service from West Side Ave. and 8th St. will terminate at Essex St. See njtransit.com for times and more details.
Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule.
River LINE will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will not be permitted on board train/bus/light rail. This policy will be strictly enforced. Customers will see increased police presence on the transit system statewide.
NJ TRANSIT Summer Vibes
The “Summer Vibes” continue to roll for NJ TRANSIT with enhanced rail and bus service heading down the Shore! Additional weekend/holiday shuttle trains between Long Branch and Bay Head and express bus service from Philadelphia to Wildwood and Cape May join a great assortment of deals and discounts for customers to enjoy fun in the sun. Additional Weekend Shuttle Trains
NJ TRANSIT’s Summer Shore Service provides additional North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL) shuttle trains between Long Branch and Bay Head on weekends and holidays. The additional shuttle trains increase the weekend/holiday frequency to hourly from approximately 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Express Bus Service Philadelphia-Wildwood-Cape May
Additionally, NJ TRANSIT Bus Route 316 has resumed daily seasonal summer service from Philadelphia to Wildwood and Cape May. This express bus also offers service to the Gloucester Premium Outlets in Blackwood. Save more than 25% when you buy tickets with the round-trip excursion fare. A round-trip ticket at the special excursion fare is $30 between Philadelphia and Wildwood and $33 between Philadelphia and Cape May. Round-trip excursion tickets are available only using the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App®, or at Philadelphia 30th Street Station or Wildwood Terminal via NJ TRANSIT Ticket Vending Machines, and are good for up to 10 days from and including the date of sale. Bus operators are not able to issue these round-trip excursion tickets on the bus. Regularly priced one-way and round-trip tickets are also available and do not have expiration date.
In addition to these service enhancements, NJ TRANSIT has an array of deals and discounts already in place for the summer months including beach packages, express buses to Six Flags Great Adventure, rail service to the Monmouth Park Racetrack, “Buy One, Get One Free” deals where customers can get a free trip with the purchase of a round-trip ticket, and more!
Beach Excursion Fares
Get to the Jersey Shore from NYC for under $20 on weekdays! NJ TRANSIT customers traveling to Long Branch and stations farther south on the North Jersey Coast Line can use a special promo code in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App to save over 40% off regular fares. That means that customers coming from New York City can visit the shore in Long Branch for less than $20 round-trip!
Customers can use a promo code to receive this discount through June 30th, check www.njtransit.com/shore for the code. A new code is active each month to receive future discounts. Promo codes are only valid for same-day, weekday activation, and each code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two round-trip tickets at a time. The code is limited to one use per customer per week and must include a destination of Long Branch or any station south of Long Branch on NJ TRANSIT’s North Jersey Coast Line to receive the special savings.
Customers in South Jersey can get to the shore too! By using the promo code in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App, customers can receive an amazing 50% travel savings on the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) between Philadelphia and Atlantic City on weekdays in June. Customers will need to check www.njtransit.com/ac for the code, and visit again for a new code each month. With this discount, customers can travel from Philadelphia to Atlantic City round-trip on weekdays for just $10! Promo codes are only valid for weekday same-day activation, and each code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two round-trip tickets at a time. The codes are limited to one use per customer per month.
Summer in the City!
NJ TRANSIT customers can use special promo codes in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App to receive a 40% discounted round-trip ride to either New York City or Philadelphia. Each city based code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two round-trip tickets, which must both be activated on the same day. Visit njtransit.com/newyork or njtransit.com/philly to get the code for your savings. Each code can only be redeemed once per customer during the summer, so be sure to make the most of your trip!
BOGO - NJ TRANSIT Style
Show your friends how easy, convenient and affordable NJ TRANSIT is throughout the summer by using a promo code in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App to “Buy One, Get One Free” round-trip between any origin and destination during the month of June. Then visit njtransit.com/bogo for a new code each month. Only one code may be used per customer per month during the promotion and all tickets expire at the end of the promotion on September 4th.

The No. 308 bus operates between the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York and Six Flags, with an intermediate stop at Newark Penn Station.
