NJ TRANSIT ISSUES INNOVATION CHALLENGE REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

Seeking Experienced Firms Capable of Introducing Innovative, Scalable and Clean Transportation Solutions for the Meadowlands Complex

NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (“RFEI”) to identify qualified, experienced firms capable of introducing innovative transportation solutions between the Frank R. Lautenberg Rail Station at Secaucus Junction and the Meadowlands Complex. The solicitation follows the inaugural “Innovation Challenge” meeting of more than 140 interested parties on November 7, 2019 at the Meadowlands.

“This is an opportunity for the most innovative and forward-thinking public and private-sector firms, nationally and internationally, to provide next-generation solutions,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett. “The ‘Innovation Challenge’ is not just about getting customers and employees to and from the Meadowlands, but about finding the means and methods for the future of moving people throughout densely populated areas.”

The Meadowlands provides unique challenges to mass transit, including: sporting events and concerts at MetLife Stadium; the American Dream which will have 20,000 employees and 40 million visitors annually; highly sensitive environmental features including the famous meadows and Hackensack River; highly traveled existing roads; and an existing rail line to the stadium from Secaucus Junction.

The agency is seeking partners that can provide end-to-end solutions for peak capacity service, including design, build, operations and management as well as identifying the financial resources to make a proposal a reality.
