NJ TRANSIT TO HOST PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS ON BUS SERVICE SCHEDULING CHANGES

In-Person Meetings Will Inform the Public and Gather Feedback on Permanent Service Changes to Multiple Bus Routes

NEWARK, NJ – NJ TRANSIT will host two in-person informational sessions on the proposed addition of Sunday service on eight bus routes throughout the state. The changes have been in place since 2021 on a pilot basis on routes that previously did not operate service on Sundays. NJ TRANSIT will conduct public meetings to gather feedback and hear considerations in advance of considering permanent schedule changes.

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday March 7th at 5 p.m. at the Trenton Transit Center – 72 South Clinton Avenue, Trenton, New Jersey. The second meeting will take place on Thursday March 9th at 5 p.m. at NJ TRANSIT Headquarters – One Penn Plaza East, 9th Floor, Newark, New Jersey. NJ TRANSIT representatives will disseminate information about the schedule changes, and time will be allocated for public comment sessions.

“In response to ridership demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, NJ TRANSIT made multiple service changes to crucial bus lines throughout the state to provide increased service options for our customers,” said New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “These informational sessions provide us the opportunity to get critical feedback from our customers as we evaluate service levels.” 

“Adding Sunday service to eight key bus routes has significantly expanded access and enhanced mobility for NJ TRANSIT bus customers throughout the state,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “Through these public hearings, we are seeking to solicit and incorporate as much customer feedback as possible, before hopefully making these enhancements permanent.”

The routes under consideration for permanent Sunday service are:

  • Bus Route No. 26 between Irvington, Springfield, Union, and Elizabeth. 
  • Bus Route No. 58 between Elizabeth and Kenilworth
  • Bus Route No. 115 between Rahway, Linden, Roselle, Elizabeth, and New York City. 
  • Bus Route No. 154 between Fort Lee, Palisades Park and New York City
  • Bus Route No. 412 between Glassboro and Philadelphia with service through Woodbury
  • Bus Route No. 455 between Cherry Hill and Paulsboro
  • Bus Route No. 457 between Camden and Moorestown
  • Bus Route No. 603 in Mercer County between Mercer Mall and Hamilton Marketplace, with service to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton Township.
