NJ TRANSIT TO HOST PUBLIC HEARINGS REGARDING PROPOSED CLOSING OF KINGSLAND RAIL STATION

In-Person Hearings Will Discuss the Future of the Kingsland Rail Station

July 29, 2024

LYNDHURST, NJ – NJ TRANSIT will host two in-person public hearings on the future of the Kingsland rail station on August 14th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lyndhurst Town Hall’s council chambers, 367 Valley Brook Avenue, Lyndhurst.

Under the proposal, the Kingsland rail station, on NJ TRANSIT’s Main Line, located at 250 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, would close in 2025, but not before a new Lyndhurst rail station has opened at 366 Court Avenue at Delafield Avenue and service has begun. At that time, service to the former Kingsland rail station would cease, currently anticipated for May 2025.

Built in 1918, the Kingsland station building has not been open to the public for the past 15 years. The station has insufficient parking and is not ADA compliant.  Reaching the platforms from street level requires using stairs as there is no elevator option. The station’s condition creates equity concerns as well as passenger circulation and experience issues.

The new Lyndhurst Station will be fully ADA accessible, provide high-level platforms and new elevators, stairs, and canopies, making for a safer, enhanced travel experience for all customers.  The new Lyndhurst station is approximately a three-minute drive from the Kingsland station.

The public hearing location is accessible for persons with disabilities. Individuals requesting a sign language interpreter, language assistance or other accommodation should contact the Public Hearing Office at (973) 491-8520 or TTY (800) 772-2287 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, no later than August 8, 2024, in order for NJ TRANSIT to make necessary arrangements.
