NJ TRANSIT TO CHANGE RAIL SCHEDULES ON JANUARY 26
Montclair-Boonton Line Changes Made to Offer More Reliable and Frequent Service
NEWARK, NJ, January 23, 2003 – NJ TRANSIT will revise some of its rail timetables on January 26 in response to changing travel patterns and customer requests. The Corporation regularly revises its schedules to enhance service and improve reliability and on-time performance.
As part of the schedule change, more reliable and more frequent service will be provided throughout the day for Montclair-Boonton Line riders. Additionally, increased peak-period weekday service will be added for customers on the Montclair-Boonton Line traveling to Hoboken Terminal at the request of customers.
NJ TRANSIT has also adjusted eastbound and westbound train service on the Montclair-Boonton Line in response to customer requests in order to provide more consistent service for passengers traveling between stations west of Montclair Heights and Hoboken and New York throughout the afternoon.
An additional westbound train, Train 1077, will depart Hoboken at 1:52 p.m. and will arrive in Hackettstown at 3:51 p.m. This train provides Mercantile Exchange employees and other employees whose jobs let out in the early afternoon with direct service from Hoboken to outlying stations, and eliminates the need to transfer at Broad Street Station.
NJ TRANSIT will continue to monitor train service on the new Montclair-Boonton Line, making additional service adjustments when possible.
In addition, two existing midday weekday trains will be extended on the Main Line, in an effort to fill service gaps at stations on the northern end of the rail line.
Overall schedule adjustments – some requiring close coordination with Amtrak – will occur on the Main and Bergen County lines, Montclair-Boonton Line, Morris & Essex Lines, Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Pascack Valley Line and Raritan Valley Line to provide more reliable service to customers.
