NJ TRANSIT ANNOUNCES JULY 4 SCHEDULES

NEWARK, NJ, June 28, 2001 -- NJ TRANSIT trains will operate on a Sunday schedule on Wednesday, July 4 -- Independence Day -- as will most NJ TRANSIT buses and the Newark City Subway. However, some northern and central New Jersey bus routes that operate to malls and major shopping areas will follow Saturday schedules. Bus customers should check the holiday service box on their timetables for exact Independence Day service information.
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will follow a special schedule on July 4, with enhanced service operating between 10 a.m. on Independence Day and 1 a.m. Thursday, July 5.
On Tuesday, July 3, NJ TRANSIT will operate getaway rail service:
- On the Northeast Corridor, train 8855 will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:39 p.m., operate express to Rahway, then make all stops to Trenton, arriving there at 4:55 p.m.
- On the North Jersey Coast Line, train 8301 will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:49 p.m., operate express to Woodbridge, and make all stops to Bay Head, arriving there at 5:44 p.m.
Additional bus service will also operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal as necessary on the afternoon of July 3.

The statewide transit agency's bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3 until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 5. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
