NJ TRANSIT ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY FORUM FOR NORTHERN BUS GARAGE DEVELOPMENT
Virtual Event Invites Firms to Learn about the Project and Related Partnership Opportunities
February 7, 2022
NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT continues advancing the Northern Bus Garage project with the announcement of an upcoming industry forum. The Northern Bus Garage project would construct a new 500 bus garage providing increased bus storage and maintenance capacity as well as the necessary infrastructure to support the operation and maintenance of a 100% zero-emissions bus fleet.
Advancing the design of the Northern Bus Garage is a critical project for NJ TRANSIT bus operations. Various approaches are being considered for this project and its related support facilities, equipment, access, and zero-emissions bus capabilities. NJ TRANSIT is seeking feedback from industry participants to inform the scope of the procurement, choice of the delivery model, means of transitioning to a zero-emissions bus fleet, and/or support revenue potential.
“This industry forum is an important part of advancing our critical Northern Bus Garage project, which will increase bus storage and maintenance capacity to meet today’s needs as well as anticipated future demand,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “The project will also include the necessary charging infrastructure to support our commitment to transitioning to a 100% zero-emissions bus fleet by 2040.”
The Northern Bus Garage will need to accommodate diesel and zero-emissions buses on day one with the flexibility to transition to a 100% zero-emission bus fleet over time. The Northern Bus Garage will need to include proper circulation aisles and modern labor-saving equipment and meet the spatial and functional needs for enclosed bus parking, service area and parts storage, bus maintenance bays and inspection bays, diesel fueling facility, alternative fueling/charging station, a bus washing facility, administrative offices, and on-site parking.
The virtual forum will be held on Monday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. EST and is open to industry professionals at no cost. Firms interested in attending the forum are invited to visit www.njtransit.com/northernbusgarage to register. Upon registration, participants will receive an email describing the project, business opportunities, and information to register for the one-on-one meetings. The industry forum will provide firms with an overview of the project and opportunity for one-on-one discussions between qualified firms and NJ TRANSIT.
Important Note: The industry forum does not constitute the start of a formal procurement process and participation in the industry forum is not a prerequisite to participate in any future procurement of the project. No firm will be advantaged or disadvantaged in subsequent solicitation(s) by either participating or declining to participate in this forum.
