NJ TRANSIT AND RUTHERFORD ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RESTORED NO. 190 PATERSON-NEW YORK ROUTE
NEWARK, NJ, December 3, 2002 ā NJ TRANSIT will restore the No.190 Paterson-New York service back to its original route beginning Saturday, January 4. The traditional No. 190 route operates between Clifton and Rutherford via the Union Avenue Bridge.
In 1990, bridge weight restrictions required that buses be detoured via Route 21, Route 3, Riverside Avenue and Jackson Avenue; the detour was never considered a permanent route change and was planned to return to its original route once the bridge work was complete.
The Union Avenue Bridge was reopened to traffic this summer and the bridge weight restrictions no longer apply, allowing NJ TRANSIT to restore bus service along the original route, which is more efficient for our customers than the current detour. The Rutherford Borough Council also passed a resolution requesting restoration of bus service via the Union Avenue Bridge and the elimination of service along Riverside and Jackson avenues to better serve the town.
In an effort to compensate for the change in the No. 190 bus route, NJ TRANSIT and Rutherford will provide various alternatives for the few commuters affected on the current route. NJ TRANSIT offers service nearby to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on the No. 192 Clifton-New York route, as does DeCamp Bus Service on their No. 32 route. A park/ride and parking deck on Kipp Avenue, allow commuters to park their cars and connect to NJ TRANSIT bus service into New York City. Rutherford will also re-route the community shuttle in town to better connect with the restored No. 190 route.
NJ TRANSIT will be holding a customer forum on the restored No. 190 Paterson-New York route on Thursday, December 12 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Port Authority Bus Terminal to inform customers and answer any questions that they may have.
For further information, riders in North Jersey can call NJ TRANSIT between 6 a.m. and midnight at 1-800-772-2222 or at 973-762-5100 from out of state. For persons with hearing impairments, the number is 1-800-772-2287.
NJ TRANSIT is the nation's largest statewide public transportation system providing more than 752,600 daily trips on 238 bus routes, two light rail lines and 11 commuter rail lines. It is the third largest transit system in the country with 160 rail stations, 28 light rail stations and more than 17,000 bus stops linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.
