NJ TRANSIT ADJUSTS SCHEDULES FOR GOOD FRIDAY HOLIDAY

Some Rail Schedules to Change April 1

NEWARK, NJ, March 28, 2002 -- NJ TRANSIT trains, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and the Newark City Subway will operate on regular weekday schedules on Good Friday, March 29.

NJ TRANSIT buses will operate on either holiday, weekday or Saturday schedules, depending on the route. Bus customers should check the Holiday Service Guide box on their timetables or on NJ TRANSIT's website carefully to determine what service will operate on their route.

NJ TRANSIT trains, buses and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on regular weekend schedules on Saturday, March 30 and Easter Sunday, March 31. Regular weekend substitute bus service will operate on the Newark City Subway both days.

NJ TRANSIT's bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28 until 6 a.m. Monday, April 1. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.

NJ TRANSIT will implement new fares on its buses, trains and the Newark City Subway on Monday, April 1. Customers can obtain new fare information at many rail stations and major bus terminals. They can also check updated fare information on the Corporation's website.

Also on Monday, April 1, NJ TRANSIT rail schedules on the Morris & Essex, Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Pascack Valley lines will be adjusted:

Morris & Essex Lines

  • Train 602 -- which currently departs Dover at 5:15 a.m. and arrives in Hoboken at 6:30 a.m. -- will now depart Dover at 5:10 a.m. and make all station stops up to five minutes earlier. Arrival time in Hoboken will not change.
  • Train 414 — which currently departs Gladstone at 7:19 a.m. and arrives in Hoboken at 8:42 a.m. — will make an additional stop at Mountain Station at 8:16 a.m. It will arrive at Newark Broad Street Station at 8:27 a.m. and in Hoboken at 8:45 a.m.
  • There will be minor changes on trains 106 (Bay Street-Hoboken) and 879 (Hoboken-Hackettstown). Customers should obtain a new timetable dated April 1 and check it carefully.

Northeast Corridor

  • Train 3863 -- which departs New York at 5:02 p.m. and Newark Penn Station at 5:18 p.m. -- will make an additional stop at Jersey Avenue at 5:44 p.m.
  • There will be minor changes on train 3818 (Trenton-New York local). Customers should obtain a new timetable dated April 1 and check it carefully.

North Jersey Coast Line

  • There will be a minor change on train 2312 (Bay Head-Hoboken). Customers should obtain a new timetable dated April 1 and check it carefully.

Pascack Valley Line

  • Train 1617 -- which currently departs Hoboken at 8:15 p.m. and arrives in Spring Valley, NY at 9:21 p.m. -- will operate five minutes later.
