NJ TRANSIT ADJUSTS BUS SCHEDULES

NEWARK, NJ, March 30, 2004 – NJ TRANSIT will revise schedules on a number of bus lines on Saturday April 3rd, in response to changing travel patterns, customer recommendations and the implementation of the Corporation’s annual summer bus service to various attractions.
Highlights of the service change include:
The No. 419 Burlington–Riverside–Philadelphia and the No. 452 Camden–36th Street Station will be rerouted to serve River LINE stations at Rt.73 Pennsauken and 36th Street Station.
The No. 966 Convent Station Shuttle and the No. 986 Summit–Murray Hill-Plainfield bus schedules will be adjusted to improve train connections.
The No. 129 Secaucus–New York route will replace the No. 972 Harmon Cove Shuttle. New Saturday night and Sunday service will be added to this line.
The No. 67 Toms River-Lakewood-Newark route will restore summer service to Seaside Heights beginning Memorial Day weekend.
There will be a series of Port Authority Bus Terminal Gate and platform changes for the No. 193, No. 194, No. 195 and No. 197. For more information, customers can go to www.njtransit.com
Customers are encouraged to pick up new timetables at major terminals and on their buses and check them carefully to determine if their trips have been changed.
The following are highlights of the April 3rd bus schedule changes:
Atlantic County
The No. 505 Atlantic City–Margate–Longport – an 11:20 p.m. trip from Margate to the Atlantic City Inlet will be added to provide later service to this section of Atlantic City.
The No. 509 Atlantic City–Somers Point-Ocean City (via New Road) – the scheduled running time between Pleasantville and Northfield will be adjusted to improve service reliability. Please check the new timetable for specific trip times.
The No. 553 Upper Deerfield –Atlantic City – limited peak hour service via Unami Boulevard in the Hamilton Business Park will be eliminated due to low ridership. All trips will operate via the regular route on Atlantic Avenue through the Business Park.
Bergen County
No. 40 Kearny–Jersey Gardens (serving North Arlington, Kearny, Harrison, Newark, Elizabeth) – Trips will begin and end at the North Arlington Loop. Trips will no longer operate on Belleville Turnpike west of Kearny Avenue/Ridge Road.
The No. 127 Ridgefield–New York – selected p.m. peak local trips have been extended to serve Fulton Place in Ridgefield. In addition, all service after 10 p.m. will now depart from Gate 326 instead of Gate 304 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Check new timetable for specific trip times.
The No. 154 Fort Lee–Palisades Park–New York, the No. 156 Englewood Cliffs–New York and the No. 159 Fort Lee–New York – travel times have been slightly adjusted to relieve crowding on buses.
The No. 158 Fort Lee–Edgewater–New York – all service after 10 p.m. will now depart from Gate 304 instead of Gate 301 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
The No. 167 Harrington Park–New York – one morning and one evening peak Teaneck Road trips will be eliminated. Departures after 10 p.m. will be reassigned at the Port Authority Bus Terminal from Gate 301 to Gate 326.
The No. 166 Dumont–Tenafly–New York – one p.m. peak I-95 express trip will be eliminated, as well as one a.m. peak local trip from New York. Check new timetable for specific trip times.
The No. 772 New Milford–Hackensack–Secaucus – selected a.m. and p.m. peak trips will be rerouted via Commerce, Central & Empire Boulevards in Carlstadt to serve the industrial park in that area. As result, service to and from Secaucus Junction Station and this area is now available.
Burlington County
The No. 413 Philadelphia–Mt. Holly–Burlington – the route in downtown Mt. Holly will be adjusted to operate trips via Rancocas Road and King Street. Trips to Burlington that do not operate via Lumberton Plaza will turn left on King Street from Washington Street, right on Rancocas Road, and then left on High Street. Trips to Philadelphia that do not operate via Lumberton Plaza will turn right on Rancocas Road from High Street, left on King Street, and then right on Washington Street. The No. 413 will no longer serve the bus stop on High Street at Garden Street in front of the Quaker Meeting House. Customers will be able to board all No. 413 trips at the bus stops on Rancocas Road. Customers traveling toward Burlington should use the bus stop on Rancocas Road across the street from the Burlington County Court House. Customers traveling toward Philadelphia should use the bus stop on Rancocas Road directly in front of the Burlington County Court House. Trips operating via Lumberton Plaza will not change. On Saturdays, a 6:30 a.m. trip from the Moorestown Mall to Philadelphia will be added. The 7:31 a.m. trip from Camden will be adjusted to start in Philadelphia at 7:07 a.m. Please consult the new timetable for specific trip information.
The No. 419 Philadelphia–Burlington – the route be adjusted to service the Rt. 73/Pennsauken River LINE station. In addition, the Federal and State Streets time-point will be eliminated and a new time-point at 7th and State Streets will be added. The route in Camden will not be changed, however, the running time between the Walter Rand Transportation Center and 49th & River Road in Pennsauken has been adjusted to improve on time performance.
Camden County
The No. 452 Camden–Aquarium–Pennsauken – the route will be adjusted to end at the 36th Street River LINE Station instead of 49th Street in Pennsauken. The route will no longer operate north of the 36th Street River LINE Station. Customers traveling in this area should consult the 419 Line timetable. The name of the No. 452 will be changed to Camden-36Th Street Station. Please check the new timetable for specific trip information.
Cumberland County
The No. 408 Philadelphia–Millville – selected weekday trips will be adjusted. Please check the new timetable for specific trip information.
Essex County
The No. 1 Newark (serving Newark, Irvington, Kearny, and Jersey City) – additional service will operate to River Terminal in Kearny. River Terminal trips will serve the new bus stop on Central Avenue near Lincoln Highway that replaces a discontinued stop on Lincoln Highway.
The No. 25 Springfield Avenue (serving Maplewood, Irvington, and Newark) – Service will be extended to serve the new Essex County Prison on Doremus Avenue in Newark. Service will operate at least hourly from 5 a.m. to midnight daily with more frequent service during peak visitors’ hours. The destination sign on buses headed to the Prison will read “Essex County Prison”.
The No. 67 Toms River–Lakewood–Newark – Saturdays and Sundays: service between Toms River and Seaside Heights/Seaside Park will be restored beginning Memorial Day weekend.
Hudson County
The No. 1 Newark (serving Newark, Irvington, Kearny, and Jersey City) – additional service will operate to River Terminal in Kearny. River Terminal trips will serve the new bus stop on Central Avenue near Lincoln Highway that replaces a discontinued stop on Lincoln Highway.
No. 40 Kearny–Jersey Gardens – trips will begin and end at the North Arlington Loop. Trips will no longer operate on Belleville Turnpike west of Kearny Avenue/Ridge Road.
Mercer County
The No. 600 Trenton–Plainsboro – from Plainsboro, the existing 3:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 4:50 p.m. and the 5:15 p.m. trips will all be changed to depart later (at 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.) to improve service reliability.
The No. 603 Mercer Mall–Quaker Bridge Mall-Hamilton Marketplace –The current 7:35 a.m. trip from Hamilton Shop-Rite will be extended beyond Franklin Corner Road in Lawrence to serve Quaker Bridge Mall, Nassau Park, and Mercer Mall via US 1 to expand service options for workers.
The No. 604 East Trenton–Trenton Rail Station – peak hour service will be added to enhance service to the Justice Complex and offer connection to River LINE service.
The No. 606 Princeton–Mercerville–Hamilton Marketplace – all trips will be extended beyond Princeton Community Village to serve Princeton Care Center on Bunn Drive. Selected trips will no longer serve Project Freedom in Washington Township due to low ridership. These trips will be adjusted to operate via NJ 33 instead when traveling to/from Hamilton Marketplace. There will be minor trip time changes on Sundays to meet early morning work shifts at Princeton Care Center.
Middlesex County
The No. 810 New Brunswick–Woodbridge Center – the 6:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and the 5:30 p.m. trips from Woodbridge Center and the 7:30 a.m. from New Brunswick will be discontinued due to low ridership. Hourly service will continue to operate throughout the weekday. A new 6:00 a.m. trip from Woodbridge Center to New Brunswick will be added to provide earlier service. On Saturdays, the existing 7:30 a.m. trip from Metuchen to New Brunswick will be adjusted to originate at Woodbridge Center at 7:00 a.m. AM to provide earlier service from Woodbridge.
The No. 813 Perth Amboy–Middlesex County College – a new 5:50 a.m. trip from Perth Amboy to Raritan Center (Newfield & Fernwood Avenues) will be added to relieve crowding during the weekdays. This new trip will not operate via Metuchen. Please consult the new timetable for specific details.
The No. 814 North Brunswick–New Brunswick-Middlesex County College – a new 7:00 a.m. trip from New Brunswick to DeVry College will be added to provide service for Saturday classes at DeVry. The existing 5:30 p.m. trip from Fashion Plaza to New Brunswick will be adjusted to originate at DeVry College at 5:30 p.m. This trip will then operate via Fashion Plaza and will end in New Brunswick at Somerset and George Streets.
Monmouth County
The No. 67 Toms River–Lakewood–Newark – Saturdays and Sundays: service between Toms River and Seaside Heights/Seaside Park will be restored beginning Memorial Day weekend.
The No. 137 Toms River–New York – a trip will be added to the schedule that departs from Lakewood Terminal at 6:39 a.m., operating via US 9/NJ 166 to Toms River Park-Ride, to relieve seasonal crowding on the No. 559 route between these points. The current 9:00 a.m. trip from Toms River to New York now operating on Mondays through Thursdays will be adjusted to operate on all weekdays, departing at 8:55 a.m.
The No. 307 New York–Six Flags Great Adventure – daily service will be restored when the amusement park opens on April 3.
The No. 308 Freehold–Six Flags Great Adventure – daily service will operate between April 3 and April 12. The route resumes regular Saturday and Sunday service with selected trips will be extended to New Egypt.
Service will be restored on the No. 311 Asbury Park–Belmar-Point Pleasant Beach–Six Flags Great Adventure – service will operate daily between April 3rd and April 12th. Regular Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday service will resume.
The No. 836 Asbury Park–Freehold Raceway Mall–Centra State Hospital – selected trips on weekdays and all trips on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays will be adjusted to serve the new Neptune Township Wal-Mart on Jumping Brook Road.
Passaic County
The No. 194 Newfoundland–New York – there will be one additional p.m. peak Pequannock-Butler express trip added. This trip will also serve the Wayne-Rte. 23 Park/Ride, as well as the new Victoria Park/Ride lot located on NJ Route 23 at County Route 515.
The No. 197 Warwick–Wayne–New York – one a.m. and one p.m. peak trip to Pompton Lakes via Valley Road in Wayne will be eliminated due to low ridership.
The No. 704 Paterson–Willowbrook Mall – service will begin and terminate at 26th Street and 5th Avenue. Stops have been eliminated along E. 24th and 26th along 7th Avenue.
Union County
The No. 986 Murray Hill Connection – will be rerouted in Summit to operate on Springfield Avenue.
