NJ TRANSIT ADDS A NEW DIMENSION TO SUMMER FUN

Corporation Launches Summer Services Program in Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY– NJ TRANSIT launched its annual summer services program today at Perth Amboy Station and invited a few special guests to the celebration. Students from McGinnis Middle School in Perth Amboy and Booker T. Washington Middle School in New York City helped to kick off the start of the summer season.

NJ TRANSIT Board Director Robert Smartt and Mayor Joseph Vas joined students for a beach party and “sandcastle competition” to highlight a variety of summer attractions customers can access when riding NJ TRANSIT. This year, rail, bus and light rail customers can “Add a New Dimension to Summer Fun,” when going online at www.njtransit.com to get information on summer services packages available.

“Our summer services program offers customers a wide variety of destinations served by NJ TRANSIT during the summer season,” Smartt said. “Our buses, trains and light rail allow people to get out of their cars, out of summertime traffic jams, and enjoy hassle-free trips to some of New Jersey’s great attraction. Also, with the opening of our new Secaucus Junction, customers from northern and western portions of the State finally have easy access to destinations that once was not available through public transportation.”

“It is fitting that NJ TRANSIT chose Perth Amboy to launch this year’s summer services program since it is the starting point for the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.” said Mayor Vas. “Perth Amboy’s historic waterfront is only minutes away from our train station. Just a few blocks away, visitors can spend the day at our newly restored beach and visit shops, restaurants, the historic Ferry Slip, all with a breathtaking view of the Raritan Bay.”

Students were treated to a day of beach filled activities that included a friendly sandcastle competition between Perth Amboy and New York students. Six Flags Great Adventure, Monmouth Park joined students as they were treated to a barbecue, games, prizes and entertainment provided by one of the area’s hottest radio personalities – WKTU’s Speedy Gonzalez.
