HEADING TO THE STEEPLECHASE?

Additional Service on the M&E Gladstone Branch will be Provided to Accommodate Thousands Attending the Annual Racing Event

FAR HILLS, NJ, October 16, 2003 – Far Hills is going to the horses and NJ TRANSIT has the ride and the ticket to get you there.

On Saturday, October 18, the township will host the annual AT&T Mooreland Farms Far Hills Steeplechase event, located across the street from NJ TRANSIT’s Far Hills Station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines. To accommodate the thousands of passengers who attend the annual event, NJ TRANSIT will provide additional train service between New York, Hoboken and Far Hills.

As a result, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., regular Saturday train service will be temporarily altered. Service will be as followed:

  • There will be no train service between Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shuttle bus service will be provided to the stations affected.
  • Between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., NJ TRANSIT will provide substitute bus service for customers going eastbound between Gladstone and Summit. Once in Summit, customers can transfer to Hoboken or New York-bound trains.
  • Between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., shuttle bus service will be provided for customers going westbound between Summit and Gladstone. Customers will have to transfer to a bus from Summit to continue to their final destination.

During the morning, trains will operate every 10 to 20 minutes from Hoboken/Summit to Far Hills between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Customers traveling from New York must transfer at Summit to continue their trip on the Gladstone Branch. Customers are asked to consult the Morris & Essex Lines timetable for New York train departures.

After the races, trains will depart Far Hills approximately every 10 minutes between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Customers traveling to New York must transfer at Summit for a MidTOWN DIRECT train. Customers are asked to refer to their Morris & Essex Lines timetable for departure times from Summit.

In addition to purchasing rail tickets at local stations or Ticket Vending Machines, customers traveling to the annual racing event can buy tickets at Bernardsville, Berkeley Heights and Gladstone stations. Customers boarding at Far Hills at the end of the event, who do not have a train ticket, must purchase a special event ticket for $5. This ticket is only valid between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT rail destination for October 18th only.
