NEWARK, NJ ¿ Beginning this weekend, NJ TRANSIT will adjust service on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines to accommodate construction work that will improve the reliability of rail service.
NJ TRANSIT will be performing work to replace the wooden catenary poles, which support the overhead power wires that supply energy to trains, with new steel poles along a portion of the Gladstone Branch. The new steel catenary structures will reduce maintenance issues and improve service reliability.
Starting Sunday, June 3 and continuing through late August, weekend train service will not operate between Gladstone and Summit stations, with substitute bus service provided between the two stations and intermediate stops.
Starting Monday, July 9, 12 off-peak weekday trains will also be replaced by substitute buses between Gladstone and Summit.
Customers traveling outbound to Gladstone can transfer to buses at Summit to complete their trips. Customers traveling inbound to Newark/Hoboken/New York from stations west of Summit should board buses at their station and transfer to inbound train service at Summit.
Morris & Essex Lines timetables dated June 3 provide a complete listing of substitute bus service departure times, designated with a "B."
Buses for service between Gladstone and Summit will pick up and drop off at the following locations (see a June 3 timetable for more information):
