New half-price parking discounts and additional express trains

Customers who use the new Montclair State University Rail Station will soon be able to park for as little as 92 cents per day ¿ and enjoy a shorter commute in the process.

¿More and more residents are discovering the benefits of using NJ TRANSIT to avoid congested roadways, tolls and other commuting hassles,¿ said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington. ¿We continue to make the MSU station more attractive to our customers by offering parking discounts and enhancing rail service to fit busy schedules.¿

Beginning April 1, customers can take a 50 percent discount on multi-month parking rates or receive 10 percent bonus value on their Stored Value Cards when using the station¿s 1500-space parking deck. To receive the special rates, customers must make their purchase by June 30, 2005.

Customers will get the most significant savings when they buy an annual access card for $220, which works out to just 92 cents per day to park¿$380 less than the cost of buying 12 individual monthly passes. Other discounted parking options available April 1 through June 30 are:

  • A three-month parking access card for $67 ($1.13 per day), a savings of $82
  • A six-month parking access card for $120 ($1 per day), a savings of $180
  • 10 percent bonus value on Stored Value cards for daily parking. The weekday parking rate at the parking deck is $3.

New express service between MSU and Hoboken saves up to 15 minutes

Starting April 24, NJ TRANSIT will make getting between MSU and Hoboken faster and more convenient by adding three new express trains, and a late night train serving MSU Station.

  • A morning express train (#1002) will depart MSU Station at 7:56 a.m. and arrive in Hoboken at 8:28 a.m., shaving approximately 15 minutes off the regular travel time.

  • During the afternoon rush hour, a new express train (#1003) will depart Hoboken at 3:47 p.m., stop at Newark Broad Street Station at 4:03 p.m., and arrive at MSU Station at 4:18 p.m., shaving 15 minutes off the regular travel time.

  • A new train (#1061) will depart Hoboken at 10:04 p.m., arrive at Newark Broad Street at 10:20 p.m. and MSU Station at 10:35 p.m., shaving 14 minutes off the regular travel time.

§ MSU students and others looking for late night travel options will soon have train #280, which will depart MSU at 11:07 p.m. and arrive in Hoboken at 11:51 p.m.
