NEWARK, NJ - NJ TRANSIT will offer "early getaway" rail and bus service on Friday, December 23 and Friday, December 30 for the benefit of customers leaving work early for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. On Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2, all rail lines will operate on a "weekend/major holiday schedule," with enhanced service on the Northeast Corridor (NEC), North Jersey Coast (NJCL) and Raritan Valley (RVL) lines, and limited service on the Montclair-Boonton and Pascack Valley lines.

For the benefit of New Year's Eve holiday revelers, NJ TRANSIT will offer 33 extra train departures, including additional late night service on nine of the system's 11 commuter rail lines. Extra NJ TRANSIT bus service will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) on more than two dozen lines until 5:30 a.m. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) service will operate at frequent intervals until 3:00 a.m., and River LINE will offer extra departures from Trenton and Camden at 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.

In addition, NJ TRANSIT�s Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and under to ride free with each fare-paying adult, will remain in effect from 7 p.m. Friday, December 23 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, and again from 7 p.m. Friday, December 30 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 3.

Christmas and New Year's holiday weekend service

On Friday, December 23 and Friday, December 30, trains will operate on a weekday schedule on all lines with additional "early getaway" service from New York Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal starting at noon. Buses will operate on a weekday schedule with extra buses departing from the Port Authority Bus Terminal starting at noon. The Newark City Subway, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and River LINE will operate on a weekday schedule.

On Monday, December 26 (Christmas Day observed) and Monday, January 2 (New Year's Day observed), trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all rail lines, with enhanced service on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley lines, and limited service on the Montclair-Boonton and Pascack Valley lines, as shown in the timetables. In addition, four Pascack Valley Line trains will depart Hoboken at 2:18 p.m., 4:18 p.m., 5:18 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., stop at Secaucus 10 minutes later, then operate to Spring Valley. "Holiday Express" trains to New York on the Northeast Corridor and Morris & Essex lines will also operate.

Newark City Subway will operate on a Saturday schedule; River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule; and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule.

New Year's Eve extra service

For the benefit of New Year's Eve holiday revelers, NJ TRANSIT will offer 33 extra train departures, including additional service before and after midnight; extra bus service from Port Authority Bus Terminal until 5:30 a.m. on New Year's morning; and extra service on River LINE and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.

In addition to regularly scheduled trains, NJ TRANSIT will offer extra service on New Year's Eve and the early morning hours of New Year's Day as follows:

Northeast Corridor

 

  • Three extra trains will depart New Brunswick at 5:26 p.m., 6:26 p.m. and 7:26 p.m., and make all stops to New York except North Elizabeth.
  • Three extra trains will depart Trenton at 7:54 p.m., 8:41 p.m. and 9:41 p.m., and make all stops to New York except North Elizabeth and Secaucus.
  • Two extra trains will depart Trenton at 2:30 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. and make all stops to New York except North Elizabeth.
  • Five extra trains will depart New York at 12:53 a.m., 1:15 a.m., 2:17 a.m., 3:15 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., and make all stops to Trenton except North Elizabeth.
  • North Jersey Coast Line

     

  • An extra train will depart Long Branch at 6:59 p.m. and make all stops to Woodbridge, operate express to Newark Penn Station, then make stops in Secaucus and New York.
  • Two extra trains will depart New York at 2 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. and make all stops to Long Branch except North Elizabeth and Avenel. For customers traveling beyond Long Branch, connecting shuttle service for all stations to Bay Head is available at Long Branch.
  • Main/Bergen and Port Jervis lines

     

  • An extra train will depart Port Jervis at 4:06 p.m. and make all stops to Suffern, then operate express to Secaucus and Hoboken.
  • Train 69, the 12:05 a.m. Hoboken departure, will not operate to Port Jervis. This train will terminate in Suffern. Port Jervis customers should take the 1:25 a.m. or 3 a.m. trains listed below.
  • An extra train will depart Hoboken at 1:25 a.m. and stop at Secaucus, operate express to Suffern, then make all stops to Port Jervis.
  • Three extra trains will depart Hoboken at 2:30 a.m., 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., and make all stops to Suffern on the Bergen County Line.
  • An extra train will depart Hoboken at 3 a.m. and make all stops to Port Jervis on the Main Line except Delawanna and Ramsey Route 17.
  • An extra train will depart Hoboken at 4 a.m. and make all stops to Suffern on the Main Line except Delawanna and Ramsey Route 17.
  • Morris & Essex Lines

     

  • Two extra trains will depart Dover at 5:35 p.m. and 6:37 p.m. and stop at Denville, Morristown, Convent Station, Madison, Chatham, Summit, Millburn, Maplewood, South Orange and New York.
  • Two extra trains will depart Dover at 7:45 p.m. and 8:41 p.m. and stop at Denville, Morris Plains, Morristown, Convent Station, Madison, Chatham, Summit, Short Hills, Millburn, Maplewood, South Orange, Brick Church and New York.
  • The scheduled 12:32 a.m. and 1:32 a.m. Hoboken-to-Gladstone trains will depart 13 minutes later at 12:45 a.m. and 1:45 a.m., respectively, and make all stops to Gladstone.
  • The scheduled 12:34 a.m. and 1:34 a.m. New York-to-Dover MidTOWN DIRECT trains will depart 16 minutes later at 12:50 a.m. and 1:50 a.m., respectively, and make all stops to Dover except East Orange, Highland Avenue, Mountain Station and Mt. Tabor.
  • Two extra trains will depart Hoboken at 2:45 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. and make all stops to Gladstone.
  • Two extra trains will depart New York at 2:50 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. and make all stops to Dover except East Orange, Highland Avenue, Mountain Station and Mt. Tabor.
  • Raritan Valley Line

     

  • An extra train will depart Newark at 4:40 a.m. and make all stops to Raritan except Garwood and Manville-Finderne.
  • Atlantic City Line

      • An extra train will depart Atlantic City at 1:29 a.m. and make all stops to Cherry Hill.

    At the conclusion of extra overnight service, all NJ TRANSIT trains will operate on a weekend schedule on Sunday, January 1. Weekend "Holiday Extra" trains on the Northeast Corridor and Morris & Essex Lines will not operate on January 1 (see timetables for specific information).

    Extra service from Port Authority Bus Terminal until 5:30 a.m.

    On New Year's Eve, NJ TRANSIT will provide regularly scheduled bus service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal from the following Park & Ride facilities: Allwood, Howell, North Bergen, Old Bridge and Ringwood. Additional service to New York will be operated on the 126 line every 15-30 minutes until 4:00 a.m., on the 190 line every 30 minutes until 6:00 a.m. and on the 320 line every 30 minutes until 2:00 a.m.

    After midnight, NJ TRANSIT will offer extra outbound bus service on more than two dozen lines from the PABT until 5:30 a.m. During that time, all service will depart from the Upper Bus Level and North Wing Gates. Customers are advised to purchase tickets prior to boarding to expedite their trip. Round-trip tickets may be purchased from bus operators on inbound routes to New York, from NJ TRANSIT ticket windows and from Ticket Vending Machines located throughout the bus terminal.

    At the conclusion of extra early morning service, all NJ TRANSIT bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule on January 1.

    Extra service on River LINE, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail

    For the benefit of holiday revelers, River LINE will operate on an extended Saturday schedule on New Year's Eve, with extra overnight trips from Trenton and Camden at 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.

    Hudson-Bergen Light Rail trains will operate at frequent intervals until 3:00 a.m. between all stations in Weehawken, Hoboken, Jersey City and Bayonne.

    Kids Ride Free on NJT

    NJ TRANSIT's Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday, December 23 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, and again from 7 p.m. Friday, December 30 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 3.
