NJ TRANSIT Rail Service for the Christmas/New Year’s Holiday Period – Tuesday, December 24, 2024, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025

NJ TRANSIT Rail service will operate with modifications during the Christmas/New Year’s holiday period (Tuesday, December 24, 2024, until Wednesday, January 1, 2025), as shown below:

 

Tuesday, December 24:

  • Trains will operate on a weekday schedule with early getaway service operating after 2PM on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex and Port Jervis Lines. Certain lines operating in the late afternoon and early evening hours on the NEC, NJCL, RVL and Port Jervis Lines will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.

Wednesday, December 25:

  • Trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule (including Port Jervis Line Train 88).

Thursday, December 26 through Friday, December 27:

  • NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning-trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • All other lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Saturday, December 28:

  • Trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule. 

Sunday, December 29:

Monday, December 30: 

  • NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning-trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • All other lines will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Tuesday, December 31:

  • In the morning, NEC and NJCL trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with additional late morning-trains on both lines. In addition, certain NEC and NJCL morning rush-hour trains will be cancelled. See timetables or visit njtransit.com for details.
  • From late afternoon through the evening, extra service to New York/Hoboken will operate on the RVL, M&E and Port Jervis Lines. Schedules will be available at njtransit.com (both in printed and electronic form) on or about December 26.

Wednesday, January 1:

  • Extra overnight service from PSNY/Hoboken with connecting service at Newark Broad Street/Summit/Long Branch. Certain trains that normally operate between 11:30PM and 1:30AM will be canceled. Schedules will be available at njtransit.com (both in printed and electronic form) on or about December 26.
  • After 6:30AM, train service will follow a regular weekend/major holiday schedule (with Port Jervis Line Train 88 operating).

Travel Notes:

  • Allow for extra travel time due to anticipated holiday ridership.
  • Purchase round-trip tickets at the start of your trip to speed your return. Use the Mobile App, ticket vending machines or see a ticket agent, if available, to avoid possible surcharges. 
  • Use  NJ TRANSIT’s mobile app for a seamless experience purchasing tickets and planning your trip.
  • NJ TRANSIT’s Family SuperSaver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult, is in effect until January 6.

  • Customers may also partake in buy one, get one free tickets and discounts to Philadelphia and Atlantic City. 

  • Customers traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport are urged to purchase their tickets in advance.

  • Passengers with luggage or packages should use overhead racks or designated luggage spaces. On multilevel trains, customers with large bags should use the mezzanine levels at the ends of each car.
