Save up to 25% when you travel together with family and friends for a special occasion, enjoy a group outing to see your favorite sports team in action, or travel with colleagues and clients to corporate events and conferences. Groups of 8 - 95 travelers save on adult and child train or light rail trips. 

Group Trips

Please be aware of the following guidelines before making your group trip reservation:

  • Group savings vary, up to 25 percent on rail lines and up to 13 percent on light rail services.
  • For travel on rail and light rail only, not valid for travel on buses.
  • Trips must be for round trip travel and occur on the same day.
  • Available all day on weekends and select holidays.
  • Weekday travel only between 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.
  • Atlantic City Rail Line group trips are available any day of the week.
  • Must be a minimum of 8 people traveling together, a maximum total of 95.
  • Larger rail groups of 96 people or more are required to rent a rail car, see information below.
  • For safety reasons, at least one adult must accompany every 10 children.
  • Parking is not included.

To book a group trip, click the "Book A Group Trip" button below and complete the reservation form to tell us about your desired trip. A NJ TRANSIT representative will contact you to confirm your reservation. Reservations must be submitted at least three weeks in advance of your trip to ensure proper processing.

Booking a group trip does not guarantee your group will sit together. Cancellations of the entire Group Trip will be accepted with full refund provided that the confirmation letter and ticket is returned to NJ TRANSIT no less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled trip. Keeping with NJ TRANSIT's policy of not issuing refunds on single ride tickets, partial refunds will not be issued for a reduction in group size or an adjustment of the mix of children and adults. To cancel and receive a refund, the ticket must be sent back to Customer Service Group Sales, One Penn Plaza East, 9th Floor, Newark, NJ 07105 postmarked prior to the trip date. Refund checks will be mailed to customers within six weeks from the day that the Refund Department receives the request.

More Choices

Large groups can make their train trip special by taking advantage of more exclusive travel options. If the size of your group is larger than 95 people, you can rent a rail car or even book an entire excursion train.

Important guidelines:

  • Larger rail groups of 96 - 440 people require a rail car rental.
  • Rail car rentals are not permitted on the Northeast Corridor.
  • Excursion train rental accommodates 440 – 900 people.
  • For safety reasons, at least one adult must accompany every 10 children.
  • Parking is not included.

Rent a Rail Car

How about your very own rail car decorated by your group in a theme of your choice? You can celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or graduation. For groups from 96 to 440 people a rail car rental is a great way to travel. (Rail car rental is required for groups greater than 95.) Each rail car seats approximately 110 people. You can rent between one and four cars, depending on the size of your party. Reservations are required 4-10 weeks in advance of your trip (10-16 weeks in advance for winter holiday rentals). A same-day return trip is required and rentals are not available on the Northeast Corridor Line. For information on rail car rental, call (973) 491-7220.

Book your own Excursion Train

Have a great time as a large group, or help your organization reach its fundraising potential by booking a special train with groups of from 440 to 900 people. You can host a number of themed events. By selling tickets for a Santa Train, Halloween Train, Fall Foliage Train, Mystery Train, or Bunny Train, your organization can have a great time, and make a large profit! You're only limited by your imagination. Have a particular schedule in mind? We make every effort to meet the departure time and the length of the trip you request. Cancellations and Refunds:
For rail car rentals and excursion trains, cancellations must be made prior to the final payment due date.
