Watch the Season Change with NJ TRANSIT

Shorter days ahead, cooler air now filling the lungs, Autumn is here. The arrival of crisp, fall weather and changing leaves also brings the arrival of fall activities in this short-lived season. 

Passing through Madison on the Morris & Essex Lines

Riding NJ TRANSIT service around the region is the perfect way to see the colors change.  According to forecasts, New Jersey should see the most vibrant of Autumn’s colors in October. With crisp cold nights and warm sunny days, the triggering of foliage’s transformation is coming!
 

Newark Light Rail in Bloomfield 

If you’re looking for a nice ride through fall foliage country, NJ TRANSIT is a wise choice. Take a scenic ride on the Newark Light Rail or River LINE light rail systems, or on the Morristown Line, Gladstone Branch, Main/Bergen County Lines, North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line or Port Jervis Line on our rail system. Some of our bus routes also pass through beautiful fall foliage scenery.

 
Lyndhurst Draw Bridge, Main Line

Some specific locations to consider along our system include:

  • The Morristown Line between Summit and Dover, including the ride along Tabor and Estling lakes.
  • Most of the Gladstone Branch west of Summit Station, including views from the Millington Viaduct west of Millington Station, and the Hogback Trestle west of Far Hills Station.
  • The Raritan Valley Line, west of Raritan Station.
  • The Port Jervis Line, including the Moodna Viaduct near Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Station, and the Woodbury Viaduct west of Harriman Station.
  • Bus No. 197 (Warwick-Wayne-New York), including where it parallels Greenwood Lake and crosses the Wanaque Reservoir.
  • Any bus route on the Garden State Parkway south of the Raritan River.
  • The River Line, including a section between Cass Street and Roebling stations adjacent to the Delaware River.
  • Newark Light Rail through Branch Brook Park.

NJ TRANSIT’s Transit to Trails program gives everyone the ability to access over 60 parks in all 21 New Jersey counties via our bus, light rail, rail, or Access Link services. Aqua Track reduces slippery rail conditions caused by falling leaves.

As the autumn season progresses, we won’t let the leaves slow you down. NJ TRANSIT’s Aqua Track trains will be ready. Those colorful leaves can create oily and slippery track conditions when they get crushed by the wheels of railcars and locomotives. Aqua Track trains utilize a high-pressure power-washing system, removing leaves and oily residue from the tracks. They are our best tools in reducing slippery rail train delays, increasing service reliability and improving the customer experience.
