Get Access to the Great Outdoors
TRANSIT to Trails
NJ TRANSIT is known for being a transportation service mainly used for commuting to work or getting around, but not for taking you to the great outdoors. Until now.
As the Garden State, New Jersey offers a variety of outdoor experiences. From hiking and biking to fishing and swimming, the green spaces are abundant. However, accessing these spaces can be a challenge for many. With the new TRANSIT to Trails program, we’re changing that.
New Jersey residents and visitors can now use the TRANSIT to Trails map to find parks in all of New Jersey's 21 counties. There are more than 60 parks to choose from, with more to be added in an ongoing effort to make green spaces accessible to all through public transportation.
Our TRANSIT to Trails webpage gives instructions on using the map, service types, and tips for making the most of the experience. The TRANSIT to Trails map provides an interactive experience as you plan your great adventure.
Popups will appear that provide information about each park, including the park’s name, where it’s located, meeting areas, trail entrances, fishing areas, a link to the park’s website and the NJ TRANSIT service that operates within two miles of the park entrance. A “Zoom to” option gives you a closer look at the bus routes, bus stops, and rail or light rail services and stations nearby.
Thinking about taking your bike to the park? NJ TRANSIT’s Bike Aboard Program may be an option for you based on your day and time of travel. Please check the rules and regulations closely before traveling with a bike on our system.
