Access Link Opens Doors for People with Disabilities
NJ TRANSIT’s Access Link paratransit service is an important lifeline for customers with disabilities who travel to work, medical appointments, recreational and entertainment destinations, shopping, and more. Access Link provides public transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use our existing local bus service.
Access Link customers can travel with one Personal Care Assistant (PCA) and one companion. The service operates the same days and hours as regularly scheduled, local fixed-route bus service, including weekends and holidays.
Access Link Online and the Access Link mobile app provide customers with one-stop shopping for their Access Link travel needs. That includes managing and using their contactless EZ-Wallet account to pay their fare, scheduling and tracking their trips, getting updated service information, and providing customer feedback.
Fares are comparable to local fixed-route bus fares and the number of zones you will be traveling through. Cash fares are accepted but exact change is required (the PCA travels free and assists you as needed!).
Important safety protocols in place as we work to ensure safe travel on our Access Link service, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Wear a face covering while traveling.
- Don’t travel if you or your PCA are feeling sick
- Don’t travel if you have been recently exposed to anyone who is positive for COVID-19 or any other infectious disease.
- Cancel reservations at least 90 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.
- Be ready for pickup at the start of your “ride” window.
To determine if you are eligible for Access Link, you must attend an in-person Transportation Assessment interview. During the interview, you will discuss your disability and transportation needs. Rides to and from the interview are provided at no cost.
If you’re interested in applying for Access Link eligibility or want to discuss your transportation needs, call (973) 491-4224 and select option #1 for the Certification Group. For more information about Access Link, click here.
