NJ TRANSIT to Waive Fares on All Modes – Effective August 26 through September 2, 2024

Governor Murphy has announced a transit fare holiday for all customers from August 26 through September 2, 2024. During this period, fares will be waived for all NJ TRANSIT modes of transportation, and free rides will be offered across the NJ TRANSIT system as a “Thank you” to the hundreds of thousands of loyal customers who depend on public transit. Customers are not required to purchase or present tickets to travel during this period. Tickets will be required for travel again beginning September 3, 2024.

Monthly pass holders who have already purchased an August pass, valid through the end of the month, will automatically receive a 25% discount on their September monthly pass purchase through the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App, at Ticket Vending Machines or ticket windows.

The fare holiday is a gesture of sincere appreciation for our customers’ continued loyalty and patronage, especially during a period when the service has not consistently met their expectations or our own. We recognize the impacts these service issues have had over the past few months and remain committed to improving the travel experience for our customers.
