TRANSIT ANNOUNCES WEDNESDAY SERVICE AND SCHEDULES

Regular Weekday Rail Service Resumes

NEWARK, NJ, February 18, 2003 – After working around the clock readying its equipment, NJ TRANSIT will resume regular weekday train service tomorrow.

The Corporation’s MidTOWN DIRECT service also will resume operating into Penn Station New York.

“Our mechanical team has been working around the clock clearing snow from on top of and under our trains, deicing the equipment and performing overall maintenance on the more than 700 cars and 100 locomotives we operate during the week,” said Bill Duggan, Vice President and General Manager of Rail Operations.

Amtrak advised NJ TRANSIT that it will resume “Clocker” service tomorrow, however, trains 628 and 629 will not operate due to equipment shortage. Customers who normally take 628 can take either train 3828, which will have two extra cars or 3790, which will make a special stop at New Brunswick. In addition, NJ TRANSIT’s 5802 is available to customers traveling to Newark Penn Station. Customers who normally take Amtrak “Clocker” train 629 can take train 3865 or 3965 from Penn Station New York or 5803 from Newark Penn Station.

In addition, the Newark City Subway and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will also operate on normal weekday schedules. NJ TRANSIT’s bus service began operating on a weekday schedule last night. The cross honoring of bus, rail and light rail tickets will be suspended tomorrow morning.

This afternoon transit added four additional trains and nine extra cars to accommodate commuter travel.
