NJ TRANSIT Streamlines Bus Customer Experience by Tap, Scan, Ride!

Here at NJ TRANSIT, we are updating our ticketing system to make getting on the move the easiest it has ever been for bus customers across the system.

“Tap, Scan, Ride” is the latest evolution in NJ TRANSIT fare payment technology. Effective immediately (except when boarding at Port Authority Bus TerminalNorth Bergen Park & Ride, and Vince Lombardi Park & Ride), customers may use contactless cards, printed tickets or passes, and mobile tickets in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App for their bus fare at the on-board validator on buses. If your ticket does not have a printed barcode for scanning, the ticket should be presented to the bus operator for validation and collection. Visit the web page for details on Tap, Scan, Ride.

To pay the adult one-way fare using Tap & Ride contactless payment, customers must alert the driver to the number of zones they wish to travel for the correct fare after tapping the contactless card or mobile wallet, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. Visit the web page for details on Tap & Ride.

For assistance with contactless transactions and scanned ticket information, contact the NJ TRANSIT Payments Call Center at (862) 229-7139. The call center is open Monday through Friday, 7AM to 5:30PM, and on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, 8:30AM to 5PM (Eastern Time).

Customers are encouraged to monitor Travel Alerts & Advisories, sign up for My Transit Alerts, download the NJ TRANSIT app, visit www.njtransit.com, or follow us at @NJTRANSIT on “X” (formerly Twitter) for the latest NJ TRANSIT updates and alerts.
