View the 4th Public Webinar Recording: On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, NJ TRANSIT held its 4th Public Webinar to gain input and feedback from stakeholders on the Draft Sustainability Plan.

What is a Sustainability Plan and why does it matter?

  • What it is: The Sustainability Plan will build upon NJ TRANSIT’s existing sustainability programs to develop a comprehensive and inclusive sustainability framework related to our social, environmental, and economic performance.
  • What it does: The Sustainability Plan will create a shared vision both within NJ TRANSIT and with our customers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Why it matters: NJ TRANSIT is committed to championing efforts that protect the natural environment, provide equitable and sustainable transportation to our customers, and to be a leader in sustainability. NJ TRANSIT will align the Sustainability Plan with our 10-Year Strategic Plan and 5-Year Capital Plan as well as the goals in New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan, including maximizing ridership, equitable transportation, and adoption of zero-emission technologies.

What is the planning process?

NJ TRANSIT has embarked on a sustainability planning process that will bring stakeholders together and focus on a long-term vision for a clean, resilient, and equitable future. Through sustainability planning, NJ TRANSIT will create a framework with a vision, goals, and measurable objectives to guide the ongoing transformation of NJ TRANSIT as a sustainability leader.

Each member of our community has a role to play in these steps. Hearing from all New Jersey residents is important, especially the voices and perspectives of people and communities who have been historically excluded and underserved by transportation. Your input is critical to ensure that a diversity of voices is heard and for the Plan to reflect New Jersey residents’ needs. Learn more below for how you can stay involved.

Target Milestones

The targeted milestones below outline the process to develop the Sustainability Plan and opportunities for public feedback. Early and often engagement will ensure the Plan reflects the diverse voices of New Jersey residents. Input opportunities include participating in the public webinars, taking surveys and participating in small group interviews.
