NJ TRANSIT TO OFFER ADDITIONAL SERVICE FOR SATURDAY'S STEEPLECHASE
Customers strongly encouraged to purchase roundtrip tickets in advance

NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT is offering extra rail service between Hoboken and Far Hills to carry thousands of spectators to and from the 96th annual Far Hills Steeplechase at Moorland Farms on Saturday, October 15. NJ TRANSIT’s Far Hills Station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines is located directly across the street from Moorland Farms.
Customers are advised that alcoholic beverages, coolers and kegs will NOT be permitted on any train to and from Far Hills on October 15. Additionally, portable furniture (such as chairs and tables) will NOT be permitted on any train to and from Far Hills on October 15.
Due to the anticipated high ridership and crowding expected along the Morris & Essex Lines on October 15, customers are also strongly encouraged to purchase roundtrip tickets in advance to avoid lines. Customers purchasing one-way, return trip tickets from Far Hills Station will pay $20 for travel between Far Hills to any NJ TRANSIT Rail station destination on October 15 only.
To accommodate the additional trains, regular Saturday rail service will be adjusted and buses will replace trains for some trips. Detailed schedule information is available at njtransit.com.
Customers are advised of the following:
- Shuttle buses will replace all trains between Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills stations from approximately 9 a.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m. Shuttle buses will operate in a continuous loop serving all three stations.
- Buses will replace certain Gladstone Branch trains inbound from Gladstone and outbound from Summit. Visit njtransit.com for bus departure times and boarding locations.
Service to the Races:
- NJ TRANSIT will operate 7 additional trains from Hoboken to Far Hills, with departures at 8:54 a.m., 9:08 a.m., 9:35 a.m., 10:05 a.m., 10:35 a.m., 11:20 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.
- One additional train will operate from New York, departing at 8:27 a.m. Other customers traveling from New York should transfer to Gladstone Branch trains at Summit Station.
Service from the Races:
Trains will depart Far Hills Station every 20-45 minutes between 3:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. All post-event trains will make all local stops to Hoboken with one train continuing to New York and all other trains continuing to Hoboken. Customers on Hoboken-bound trains traveling to New York must change trains at Summit Station. (Midtown Direct service between Dover and New York will operate on a regular Saturday schedule.)
Important Travel Tips
- All customers should monitor njtransit.com for the latest scheduling information.
- Customers should afford themselves ample time to reach their final destination and use good judgment in their travels.
- Alcoholic beverages and portable furniture such as chairs and tables are NOT permitted on any train to and from Far Hills.
- Due to anticipated high ridership, customers are strongly encouraged to purchase roundtrip tickets in advance to avoid lines. Customers purchasing one-way, return trip tickets from Far Hills Station will pay $20 for travel between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT Rail station on October 15 only.
- Customers boarding at Far Hills on October 15 without a valid ticket or pass will be required to purchase a special ticket prior to boarding the train. The special ticket is valid until 11:59 p.m. on October 15 only for travel between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT rail station.
- On October 15, ticket offices will be open special hours at Summit, Berkeley Heights, Lyons, Bernardsville, Far Hills and Gladstone stations.
