NJ TRANSIT TO HOST PUBLIC HEARINGS ON EXPANDED NORTH NJ WEEKEND AND AMERICAN DREAM BUS SERVICE

Public invited to Express their Views on proposed Expansion of Bus Route Nos. 772 (New Milford-Hackensack-Meadowlands) and 119 (Bayonne-Jersey City-New York), and New Premium Fare Express Service between New York and American Dream

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 10, 2019

NEWARK, NJ -- NJ TRANSIT will hold two public hearings to gather information and feedback on making permanent the current piloted expansions of bus service in northern New Jersey including existing bus route Nos. 119 and 772, and implementing a proposed new premium fare on the express service between the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) in New York and the American Dream complex.

On August 31, 2019 NJ TRANSIT added pilot weekend and weekday evening service to Bus Route No. 772 to accommodate customers interested in employment and recreational services at the soon-to-open American Dream complex in East Rutherford. Evening service has been extended along the line until 10:20 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday service will operate approximately every 30 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 10: 30 p.m.

On September 1, 2019, NJ TRANSIT added pilot Sunday service to Bus Route No. 119 operating between Bayonne, Jersey City and New York City operating every hour throughout most of the day and every two hours during late night/early morning hours. The schedule is the same as the current Saturday service.

Beginning on October 25, NJ TRANSIT will operate express bus service from New York City to the American Dream complex.  The new bus route, No. 355, will operate daily express service from PABT to the American Dream Complex every 30 minutes to accommodate employees and visitors.  NJ TRANSIT proposes to establish, on a pilot basis, a premium bus fare for this frequent, express bus service.

In addition to presentations of the proposals to make these three pilots permanent, the public hearings are designed to receive public comment on the proposed expansions of bus service. The public’s view on this proposal as expressed at the hearings and through the written comment process will be presented to the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors prior to a final decision.
