NJ TRANSIT TO EXPAND ONE-SEAT RIDE SERVICE ON NORTH JERSEY COAST LINE

Weekday One-Seat Service will be available between Bay Head and Penn Station New York

NEWARK, NJ — Just in time for summer, NJ TRANSIT will offer new weekday one-seat ride service on the North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL) to the Jersey shore.  Six trains will operate from Bay Head to New York and New York to Bay Head with no need to transfer at Long Branch starting May 18th.
““NJ TRANSIT is committed to supporting the residents, communities, and businesses along the Coast Line,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman Jamie Fox.  “The addition of new weekday service from New York to Bay Head is vital to not only residents of the Jersey Shore who commute, but also provides more options for those who vacation at the Shore.”

“Our customers have always given us detailed feedback on what they would like to see implement in terms of new service, and we are thrilled to make it happen,” Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim said. “This expanded one-seat service on the North Jersey Coast Line would not be possible without the support of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA).  NJTPA was instrumental in securing the funding necessary to provide a seamless commute into New York City possible for hundreds of NJCL customers.”

The announcement follows the November 25, 2014 endorsement of the new service by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), in which part of the authorized $910,000 allocation through the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) will fund this service. 

Changes to the existing morning and evening rush hour service are as follows: 

Morning Weekday Rush-Hour One Seat service

Newly-numbered trains 3312, the 5:06 a.m. Bay Head departure, 3318, the 5:45 a.m. Bay Head departure and 3326, the 6:54 a.m. Bay Head departure will operate directly into New York Penn Station from Bay Head. 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Newly-numbered train shuttle 3312 replaces current train 2302 between Bay Head and Long Branch ONLY. Customers traveling to Hoboken from stations between Bay Head and Elberon will need to transfer at Long Branch to newly-numbered train 2602, departing Long Branch at 6:05 AM and arriving into Hoboken at 7:28 a.m. 
  • Newly-numbered train shuttle 3318 replaces current train 2304 between Bay Head and Long Branch only. Customers who normally board current train 2304 at stations from Bay Head to Elberon for service to Hoboken will now use newly-numbered shuttle train 4306 along with Hoboken bound train 2606 at Long Branch.
  • Newly-numbered shuttle train 4306 also replaces current train 2304 between Bay Head and Long Branch only. Customers boarding between Bay Head to Elberon and traveling to Hoboken will need to transfer at Long Branch to newly-numbered train 2606, departing Long Branch at 6:40 a.m. and arriving into Hoboken at 8:06 a.m.
  • Newly-numbered train 3326 replaces current train 2308 between Bay Head and Shuttle only. Customers boarding between Bay Head and Elberon and traveling to Hoboken will need to transfer at Long Branch to newly-numbered train 2608, departing Long Branch at 7:45 a.m. and arriving into Hoboken at 9:10 a.m.

Evening Weekday Rush-Hour One Seat service

Newly-numbered trains 3361, the 4:36 p.m. New York departure, 3363, the 5:06 p.m. New York departure and 3373, the 6:03 p.m. New York departure will operate directly to Bay Head from New York Penn Station.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Newly-numbered train 2605 replaces current train 2305 between Hoboken and Long Branch only. Customers on newly-numbered train 2605 will transfer to newly-numbered train 3361 at Long Branch, departing at 6:03 p.m. for all stops between Elberon and Bay Head.
  • Newly-numbered train 2607 replaces current train 2307 between Hoboken and Long Branch only. Customers on newly-numbered train 2607 will transfer to newly-numbered train 3363 at Long Branch, departing at 6:29 p.m. for all stops between Elberon and Bay Head.
  • Newly-numbered train 2611 replaces current train 2311 between Hoboken and Long Branch only. Customers on newly-numbered train 2611 will transfer to newly-numbered train 3373 at Long Branch, departing at 7:30 p.m. for all stops between Elberon and Bay Head.

AM RUSH

  • Train 2302 – Hoboken-bound customers boarding between Bay Head and Elberon should board New York-bound train 3312 (21 minutes earlier) and transfer in Long Branch for Hoboken train 2602. Hoboken-bound customers boarding between Bay Head and Elberon can also board New York-bound train 3318 (18 minutes connection) and transfer in Long Branch for Hoboken train 2606.
  • Train 2304 – Hoboken-bound customers boarding between Bay Head and Elberon should board shuttle train 4306 (5 minutes earlier than current train 2304) and transfer in Long Branch for Hoboken train 2606 (5-minute connection).
  • Train 2308 – Hoboken-bound customers boarding between Bay Head and Elberon should board New York-bound train 3326 (12 minutes earlier), and transfer in Long Branch for Hoboken train 2608 (12-minute connection).

PM RUSH

  • Train 2305 – Customers traveling to stations between Elberon and Bay Head should board newly-numbered train 2605 in Hoboken, which departs Hoboken at the same time as the current train 2305 and transfer in Long Branch for train 3361 (11-minute connection).
  • Train 2307 – Customers traveling to stations between Elberon and Bay Head should board newly-numbered train 2607 in Hoboken, which departs Hoboken at the same time as the current train 2307 and transfer in Long Branch for train 3363 (5-minute connection).
  • Train 2311 – Customers traveling to stations between Elberon and Bay Head should board newly-numbered train 2611 in Hoboken, which departs Hoboken at the same time as the current train 2311 and then transfer in Long Branch for train 3373 (11-minute connection).
