NEWARK, NJ - Several private and public entities - including NJ TRANSIT -- will offer on-the-spot purchasing opportunities for small, minority and women-owned businesses at the upcoming NJ Competitive Purchases 'Avenues of Opportunity For Small Businesses' procurement fair. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robert Meyner Reception Center, part of the PNC Arts Center, in Holmdel.
"This is the first time that private and public entities have participated in an event where sponsors accept competitive, on-the-spot price quotes from vendors - rather than just business cards," said Ernest Williams, manager of outreach programs in NJ TRANSIT's Office of Business Diversity and chairman of this collaborative effort. "This event will speed up the purchasing process and represent an invaluable opportunity for businesses throughout the state."
Attendees will be able to submit price quotes on products and services, ranging from janitorial supplies to printing services. To submit quotes, firms must have one of the following credentials: a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) registration, a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification, or a Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) certification.
The following eight sponsors will provide purchasing opportunities at the event:
NJ TRANSIT, New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority, The Port Authority of N.Y. & N.J., South Jersey Transportation Authority, Delaware River Port Authority, Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey, New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
Six other sponsors will be on hand to provide information: N.J. Department of Transportation, Newark Public Schools, County of Essex, New Jersey Small Business Development Centers, New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council Inc., and New Jersey Commerce, Economic Growth & Tourism Commission, which will be available to provide on-site registration to small businesses.
Information about certification, registration and pre-qualification, which will lead to access to purchasing opportunities at various agencies, will be provided on site.
