EXTRA TRAINS, BUSES ADDED THURSDAY FOR CHRISTMAS 'EARLY GETAWAY'

NEWARK, NJ - The next best thing to having your own flying sleigh, NJ TRANSIT will add 10 "early getaway" trains to its weekday schedule on Thursday, December 23 and offer extra bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal for the benefit of customers leaving work early for the Christmas holiday. In addition, NJ TRANSIT's popular "Family Super Saver Fare," which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will remain in effect from noon Thursday, December 23 until 6 a.m. Monday, December 27.
Thursday, December 23 - Regular Schedule plus Early Getaway Service
On the Northeast Corridor, three additional trains will depart New York Penn Station at 1:54 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:27 p.m. The three trains will make station stops at Newark Penn Station and Newark Liberty International Airport, then operate express to Metropark, making all stops thereafter to Trenton.
On the North Jersey Coast Line, an extra Bay Head-bound train will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:47 p.m., operate express to Woodbridge and then make all stops to Bay Head.
For the benefit of Raritan Valley Line customers, the 1:06 p.m. departure from Newark will be extended to High Bridge and make all stops except Garwood and Manville-Finderne. An extra train will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:34 p.m., making all stops to Raritan except Manville-Finderne. To accommodate this extra service, the 6:23 p.m. express train from Newark to High Bridge and the 6:29 p.m. local from Newark to Plainfield will be combined. The combined train will depart Newark at 6:29 p.m. and make all stops to High Bridge except Manville-Finderne.
On the Morris and Essex Lines, an early getaway train will depart New York at 3:10 p.m., operate express to Summit, and then make all stops to Denville. A New York-bound "Shopper's Special" train departs Summit at 10:17 a.m. weekdays through December 31.
On the Main/Bergen County lines, two Waldwick-bound trains will depart Hoboken at 12:50 p.m. (Main Line) and 1:50 p.m. (Bergen County Line). One extra Hoboken-bound train will depart Suffern at 4:18 p.m.
On the Port Jervis Line, an early getaway train will depart Hoboken at 3 p.m. The 1:15 p.m. departure from Hoboken to Middletown will be extended to Port Jervis, departing at 1:25 p.m. and operating express from Secaucus Junction to Suffern. Customers for Ridgewood, Ramsey and Route 17 stations can take the 1:32 p.m. train from Hoboken. Also, an express train will depart Port Jervis at 3:55 p.m., operating express from Suffern to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken.
On the Pascack Valley Line, two early trains will depart Hoboken at 12:57 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. To accommodate the extra trains, the 5:27 p.m., 5:56 p.m. and 6:06 p.m. trains will not operate from Hoboken.
NJ TRANSIT will offer additional departures from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) on an as-needed basis starting at noon on Thursday, December 23. The Newark City Subway will operate an enhanced weekday schedule with extra service between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and the River LINE will operate on a weekday schedule.
Friday, December 24 - Enhanced Weekend Schedule
NJ TRANSIT will operate on an enhanced weekend schedule on Friday, December 24, offering 27 extra trains over a standard weekend schedule.
On the Northeast Corridor, an extra New York-bound train will depart Trenton at 6:53 a.m. and an extra Trenton-bound train will depart New York Penn Station at 12:44 p.m.
On the North Jersey Coast Line, an extra New York-bound train will depart Long Branch at 6:38 a.m. and an extra Long Branch-bound train will depart New York at 4:47 p.m.
On the Raritan Valley Line, an extra Hoboken-bound train will depart Raritan at 6:43 a.m. and an extra Raritan-bound train will depart Hoboken at 4:53 p.m.
Limited service will be offered on the Montclair-Boonton Line. Only the following trains will operate:
- Hoboken-bound trains will depart Lake Hopatcong at 5:38 a.m., 6:38 a.m. and 7:38 a.m.
- New York-bound trains will depart Montclair State University at 6:35 a.m., 7:35 a.m. and 8:35 a.m.
- Montclair State University-bound trains will depart New York Penn Station at 3:51 p.m., 4:51 p.m. and 5:51 p.m.
- Lake Hopatcong-bound trains will depart Hoboken at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Limited service will be offered on the Pascack Valley Line. Only the following trains will operate:
- Hoboken-bound trains will depart Spring Valley at 6:20 a.m., 7:20 a.m. and 8:25 a.m.
- Spring Valley-bound trains will depart Hoboken 2:17 p.m., 4:17 p.m., 5:17 p.m. and 6:17 p.m.
On the Port Jervis Line, an extra Hoboken-bound train will depart at 6:19 a.m. and make all stops to Sloatsburg, then operate express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken. An additional train to Port Jervis will depart at 2:15 p.m., stop at Secaucus Junction and then operate express to Allendale, Ramsey, Route 17 and Suffern before making all stops to Port Jervis.
NJ TRANSIT buses will operate on a holiday/Saturday schedule, which will require a special timetable on most lines. The special timetables will be available aboard buses, at the Port Authority Bus Terminal or online at www.njtransit.com
The Newark City Subway, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and the River LINE will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
Saturday, December 25 - Weekend Schedule
NJ TRANSIT trains and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule. NJ TRANSIT buses and the Newark City Subway will operate on a Saturday schedule. The River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Sunday, December 26 - Weekend Schedule
NJ TRANSIT trains and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule. NJ TRANSIT buses, the Newark City Subway and the River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Kids Ride Free on NJT
NJ TRANSIT�s Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from noon Thursday, December 23 until 6 a.m. Monday, December 27. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
